V8 Engine Gets a 21ps Boost to 528ps
Bentley's luxurious two-door Continental GT series has welcomed a new, sportier lineup: the "Continental GT V8 S," featuring a more powerful V8 engine. Like other models in the lineup, the "Continental GT V8 S" is available in both coupe and convertible versions. Currently, the naming convention differs slightly, with the coupe designated as "Continental GT V8 S" and the convertible as "Continental GT V8 S Convertible."
As the "S" in its name suggests, the "Continental GT V8 S" is brimming with sporty character. This is evident in its retuned sports suspension with a lower ride height, a sharper and more responsive steering system, exclusive 20-inch open-spoke wheels, a splitter added to the lower front and side bodywork, and the enhanced V8 engine. These features clearly differentiate it from the entry-level "Continental GT V8" and "Continental GTC V8" models.
The noteworthy engine is a tuned version of the 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo found in the "Continental GT V8." It produces a maximum output of 389kW (528ps) at 6,000rpm and a formidable peak torque of 680Nm (69.3kgm) at just 1,700rpm. The transmission is a ZF-sourced, close-ratio 8-speed automatic. Selecting "S mode" on the gear selector engages gear changes with minimal lag, holding each gear longer than in D mode for a sportier driving experience.
The "Continental GT V8 S" accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 4.5 seconds, reaching a top speed of 309 km/h. The "Continental GT V8 S Convertible" boasts similar performance, achieving 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 308 km/h.
However, the enhanced power is not the sole highlight. While delivering this increased performance, the new V8 engine also achieves class-leading fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions, along with a cruising range exceeding 805 km on a full tank.
The combined cycle fuel consumption for the coupe model is 10.6 L/100km (9.43 km/L), with CO2 emissions of 246 g/km. For the convertible model, the published figures are 10.9 L/100km (9.17 km/L) for fuel consumption and 246 g/km for CO2 emissions.
The chassis features a sports suspension set 10mm lower than the standard V8 model. Spring rates are increased by 45 percent at the front and 33 percent at the rear, with revised damping. Bushing stiffness is increased by up to 70 percent, and the rear anti-roll bar stiffness is boosted by 54 percent. The electronic stability control has also been optimized for the GT V8 S, allowing for a wider range of wheel slip during high-speed driving and quicker engine torque recovery after system intervention compared to previous models.
These new "Continental GT V8 S" and "Continental GT V8 S Convertible" models, proudly displaying "V8 S" emblems on their front fenders, were simultaneously unveiled at theFrankfurt Motor Showand are scheduled for release in early 2014.
