The Renault Captur is a compact SUV from Renault, whose concept model was announced at theGeneva Motor Showand subsequently at theTokyo Motor Show.
The design is the work of Laurens van den Acker, who moved from Mazda to succeed Patrick Le Quément. It is part of a design strategy called "Lifecycle," which divides a person's life into several stages and proposes models suited to each period.
The model unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show is the production version of this Captur. While it shares a platform with the Nissan Juke, it is slightly more compact at 4.12 meters long, 1.77 meters wide, and 1.57 meters tall. Within the Renault lineup, it can be considered an SUV version of theLutecia (Clio). It is equipped with 16 or 17-inch tires and has a ground clearance of 200 mm.
The design emphasizes user-friendliness, with Renault citing the shape of the side sills as an example, designed to prevent passengers from soiling their trousers or shoes when getting in and out.
The interior, which offers ample space, features a colorful and bright color scheme, similar to the exterior. Customers can choose from seven color patterns for the center console, air vents, speaker surrounds, and the pull-out glove box, with two color options for the trim.
Further customization options include body color, roof and pillar colors, wheel colors, bonnet, roof, and tailgate decorations, as well as removable seat covers.
The luggage compartment floor is movable, offering a capacity of 377 to 455 liters. The rear seats can slide approximately 160 mm.
The engine options include two gasoline engines: an 899cc 3-cylinder turbo "TCe 90" with 113g/km CO2 emissions (4.9 L/100km fuel consumption) and a 1,198cc 4-cylinder turbo "TCe 120 EDC" with 125g/km (5.4 L/100km). The diesel options are a 1,461cc 4-cylinder turbo "dCi 90" and "dCi 90 EDC" with 95g/km (3.7 L/100km) and 104g/km (4.1 L/100km) respectively. The units designated "EDC" are paired with a 6-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
It is scheduled to be manufactured at the Valladolid plant in Spain, but sales timing and pricing have not yet been announced.
