Citroen's Next C4 Picasso Revealed
Since the "Xsara Picasso" debuted in 1999, Citroen has expanded its "Picasso" lineup to include the "C4 Picasso," "Grand C4 Picasso," and "C3 Picasso," with nearly 3 million "Picasso" badged models sold worldwide to date. In Japan, the "Grand C4 Picasso" was imported and sold as the "C4 Picasso."
The "Technospace Concept," the next C4 Picasso to be exhibited by Citroen at the Geneva Motor Show, is a concept car that adopts the "EMS2" next-generation platform announced by Peugeot-Citroen. "EMS2" stands for "Efficient Modular Platform 2" and is said to achieve a weight reduction of up to 70kg compared to previous platforms. It is expected to be adopted in 50 percent of Peugeot-Citroen's total production in the future.
Incidentally, the first vehicles to use this new "EMS2" platform will be the Peugeot "308" and the Citroen "C4 Picasso." Sales are expected to begin in the latter half of 2013.
The Technospace Concept continues to feature the "Zenith windshield," which extends the windshield to the roof of the driver's cabin, similar to the previous C4 Picasso. The body lines and the deep design of the taillights follow Citroen's recent design concepts. Another distinctive feature is the chrome line, extending from the double chevrons up to the headlights. The tailgate is cut to avoid splitting the taillights, a design not seen before in Citroen vehicles.
The interior, featuring a sunroof, is described as an open and airy space, complemented by the Zenith windshield, which Citroen calls "Loft Spirit." A 7-inch touch panel is located in the center cluster, and a 12-inch LCD panel is mounted on the dashboard.
The body dimensions are 4,430mm in length, 1,830mm in width, and 1,610mm in height, with a trunk capacity of 537 liters. While details of the engine have not yet been revealed, it records CO2 emissions of 98g/km, indicating excellent environmental performance.
