Fusion of Practicality and High Performance
The top athletes of the Audi lineup, the RS models, are meticulously crafted by quattro GmbH. 2013 is proving to be a strong year for these RS models. "We are creating a new class in the SUV segment with the compact Audi RS Q3," states quattro GmbH. The RS Q3 is the RS version of Audi's compact SUV, the Q3. "The latest addition to the RS series is the fastest convertible, the open-top version of the RS5 | AudiRS5 Cabriolet", and the "Audi RS6 Avant Arrives | AudiRS6 Avant", and the "Audi's Fastest 5-Door Coupe, the RS7 Announced | AudiRS7 Sportback", this is the fourth "RS" model of 2013.
This is the production version of the concept model that appeared at last year'sConcept Model Unveiled at Beijing Motor ShowBeijing Motor Show. The engine has been officially confirmed as the 5-cylinder 2.5-liter turbo engine previewed in the concept model. While it's a similar unit to those used in the "TT RS" and the "RS3 Sportback", it has been tuned for the Q3, delivering a maximum output of 228kW (310ps) between 5,200-6,700rpm and a peak torque of 420Nm between 1,500-5,200rpm. This is lower than the concept model's 360ps, and the 0-100km/h acceleration time has also slightly increased from the concept model's 5.2 seconds to 5.5 seconds.
The transmission is a 7-speed S tronic with launch control. The ride height is 25mm lower than standard, and it comes with 19-inch wheels as standard. Three types of 20-inch wheels are available as an option.
The body, 25mm longer than the standard Q3, features matte aluminum roof rails, a high-gloss black honeycomb grille, front air intakes with quattro emblems, a large roof spoiler, and a rear bumper with a diffuser, all contributing to the distinctive RS model appearance. Two styling package options are available, finishing metallic trim elements in matte aluminum or black. The body color range includes eight colors, including the RS Q3's signature color, "Sepang Blue."
The interior boasts RS model-specific appointments such as sports seats in leather and Alcantara with RS Q3 logos, a flat-bottom steering wheel, aluminum-look alloy pedals, and piano black trim. Optional Nappa leather seats with silver stitching or diamond stitching are available, and the trim can be chosen in aluminum or carbon fiber.
The "MMI" infotainment system includes an RS menu, which can display boost pressure, oil temperature, lap times, and more.
As a compact SUV, the RS Q3 also excels in practicality. The cargo space remains generous, offering 356 liters normally and expanding to 1,261 liters with the rear seats folded. A 10-speaker audio system is standard, with an optional 14-speaker BOSE surround sound system available.
The price in Germany is 54,600 Euros (approximately 6.7 million yen). Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the fall of 2013.
