Astonishing performance worthy of the "SLS AMG" name, even as an EV

At the Paris Motor Show 2012, currently underway, Mercedes-Benz unveiled a new EV model developed based on the company's super sports car "SLS AMG." Previously,SLS AMG E-CELLtesting had been repeated under the name "SLS AMG E-CELL," but it has now been renamed "SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive" and will be sold as a production version.

This EV model employs an in-wheel motor system, with one motor per wheel for a total of four. This is unchanged from the basic system of the aforementioned prototype "SLS AMG E-CELL." However, the maximum output has been significantly increased to 552 kW (approximately 750 hp), an increase of 160 kW, and the maximum torque to 1,000 Nm (approximately 102 kgm), an increase of 120 Nm.

The battery installed is a lithium-ion battery, distributed in three locations—in front of the front cowl, in the center tunnel, and above the rear axle—to consider a low center of gravity and front-rear weight distribution. The total storage capacity is 60 kWh, an increase of 12 kWh from the "SLS AMG E-CELL's" 48 kWh. The top speed is 250 km/h (with limiter), and it achieves 0-100 km/h acceleration in 3.9 seconds, demonstrating performance comparable to the gasoline version's 3.7-second spec.

Sales are scheduled to begin in its home country of Germany from July 2013. The price was announced as 416,500 euros (approximately 41.65 million yen).
