New 260ps Engine Also Arrives!
The Peugeot "RCZ," which made a stunning debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in autumn 2009, will receive its first minor change as it enters its third year. This facelift adopts Peugeot's new design front mask, first proposed in the concept car "SR1" announced shortly after the "RCZ" debut. It features new LED-integrated headlights, and a grille with a low, wide central air intake and chrome bars.
Furthermore, the "RCZ R concept," aiming for production by the end of 2013, will be displayed as a reference exhibit at this Paris Motor Show. This model is a sports car for road use, benefiting from the tuning experience gained from the "RCZ Peugeot Sport," announced last year by Peugeot's motorsport division, known for its success in Le Mans and WRC, and used in one-make races in France and Italy since this season.
The powertrain is an enhanced version of the 1.6-liter direct-injection inline-4 turbo "THP" engine found in the standard "RCZ." While the previous high-performance version of the normal "RCZ" had a maximum output of 200ps, this "RCZ R concept" has succeeded in adding another 60ps, achieving 260ps – the most powerful figure for a production Peugeot model to date. The output per liter is equivalent to 160ps, and according to Peugeot, it will be one of the highest-output engines in mass-produced cars worldwide. On the other hand, with CO2 emissions of 155g/km, it achieves data befitting a contemporary sports car in terms of environmental performance.
Furthermore, the chassis has been reinforced with dedicated tuning for the suspension and a Torsen LSD. The exterior and interior also feature enhancements befitting a top-grade model, and it has achieved a product appeal that can rival theAudiTT-S.
This RCZ R concept is slated for mass production by the end of 2013.
