A Concept Car Packed with Racing Technology
Following in the lineage of the 1984 "QUASAR," the 1986 "PROXIMA," the 1988 "OXIA," the 2004 "907," and the 2006 "908RC," Peugeot has consistently presented concept studies focused on super sports cars. This year, at the Paris Salon opening on September 27th, an even more ambitious concept car, the "Onyx," will be showcased as a reference exhibit.
This model is a supercar born directly from racing technology, jointly developed by "Peugeot Sport," which campaigned the Peugeot "908 HDi FAP / 908" in Le Mans and the North American ALMS Championship until last year, and the R&D section of "PSA Peugeot Citroën."
The mid-ship mounted, rear-wheel-drive power unit is a 3.7-liter V8 hybrid HDI FAP twin-turbo diesel, adapted from the Le Mans racer 908, producing 600 ps. It is paired with a 6-speed sequential transmission. A regenerative energy system, which stores braking energy, is also incorporated; this lithium-ion battery can deliver an additional 80 ps on demand.
The body dimensions are 4,650mm in length, 2,200mm in width, and 1,130mm in height, with an aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.30. Reflecting a focus on recycling, the passenger compartment is formed from compressed felt. The dashboard, featuring a unique design integrated with the seats, uses a novel wood-grain material called "Newspaper wood," recycled from old newspapers, showcasing the experimental approach typical of a cutting-edge concept car.
However, following the precedent of Peugeot's concept studies, the likelihood of this model reaching production is virtually nil.
