This model, named the "B-Class Electric Drive," houses its lithium-ion battery in the floor, in an area called the "Energy Space" located ahead of the rear axle. By placing the motor in the front where the engine would normally sit, it achieves zero-emission driving without sacrificing any interior space.

Charging of the lithium-ion battery uses the European standard 230V, and it also supports 400V rapid charging. The paired motor produces a maximum output of 100 kW (134 hp) and a peak torque of 310 Nm (31.6 kgm). While the battery capacity has not yet been announced, it is said to offer a range of approximately 200 km on a single full charge.

Mercedes-Benz AG aims to begin commercial production of the "B-Class Electric Drive" in 2014, and preparations are reportedly already underway. The company also announced that it will sequentially add internal combustion and fuel cell variants to the new B-Class lineup in the future.

Additionally, at the Paris Motor Show, the production versions of the "SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive" and "smart BRABUS electric drive" are scheduled for their world premiere alongside this vehicle.
