A Glimpse of Future LEXUS
The "LF-CC Concept," information on which has now been released, is a model that previews future LEXUS mid-size coupés (LEXUS in the D-segment). It is anticipated that the 2014 LEXUS IS will follow a similar direction.
The exterior design language is an evolution of LEXUS's current aesthetic, with "L" motifs incorporated throughout. The signature "spindle grille" is, of course, also featured. The low front spoiler is composed of complex surfaces, and the running lights are integrated into the bumper below the headlights.
The side profile conveys a sense of increasing mass towards the rear, which LEXUS states emphasizes the car's rear-wheel-drive nature. A distinctive line rises from the lower body, through the rear wheel arch, and into the taillights.
Moving to the rear, the design is characterized by a sense of upward motion, featuring unique, three-dimensional taillights with repeating "L" shapes. The shark fin antenna on the roof integrates the high-mount stop lamp.
The body color is a metallic shade called "Fluid Titanium," which accentuates the car's lines with its rich shadows.
New Interior Innovations
While only exterior images have been released so far, and interior details remain undisclosed, it appears that the interior will also incorporate new challenges for future LEXUS models, while inheriting the brand's design philosophy.
Specifically, the dashboard is clearly divided into two zones: an upper "display zone" comprising screens, and a lower "operation zone" housing the shift lever and controls. The aim is to create a spacious cabin and a user-friendly, sporty cockpit that allows the driver to concentrate on driving.
The interior color scheme is said to be finished in amber-colored leather, creating an elegant and warm atmosphere that contrasts with the exterior color, according to LEXUS.
New Hybrid Powertrain with Class-Leading Environmental Performance
The powertrain will combine a newly developed 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine, featuring Toyota's D-4S direct injection technology and the Atkinson cycle for enhanced thermal efficiency by increasing the expansion ratio over the compression ratio, with LEXUS's renowned hybrid system. This powertrain is expected to be sequentially adopted in future LEXUS production models.
With CO2 emissions below 100g/km and an expected output of over 2ps per gram of CO2 emitted,
LEXUS expresses confidence in its upcoming creation, aiming for the highest level of performance in the D-segment by balancing sporty driving dynamics with excellent environmental performance.
The official announcement at the Paris Motor Show 2012 is scheduled for September 27th. It appears a new contender is emerging in the highly competitive D-segment, with further details eagerly awaited.
