The World's First Plug-in Hybrid SUV
Starting September 27,Paris Motor Show 2012Mitsubishi Motors announced that it will unveil the "Outlander PHEV," an SUV equipped with its "Plug-in Hybrid EV System," at the event.
The base is, naturally, the new "Outlander," which has already undergone a full model change overseas. Leveraging EV (electric vehicle) technology honed with the "i-MiEV" and other models, this development focuses on a category where long-distance driving capability is also emphasized.
The core component, a lithium-ion battery, boasts a large capacity of 12kWh. It is said to enable over 55km of electric-only driving. Furthermore, by combining it with the hybrid system, the target fuel efficiency is over 61km/L, calculated in JC08 mode.
The drive system, which Mitsubishi Motors calls "Twin Motor 4WD," uses independent motors to drive the front and rear wheels. According to the company, this system utilizes the torque unique to electric motors to achieve powerful acceleration and offers excellent responsiveness.
The "Outlander PHEV" is scheduled to be launched in the Japanese domestic market from early 2013, with a phased global rollout to follow.
The compact car, a global strategic model "Mirage," also makes its European debut
In addition, Mitsubishi Motors will showcase the new "Mirage" in Europe at this Paris Motor Show. This model achieves a vehicle weight comparable to a kei car (845kg) and CO2 emissions of 92g/km, thanks to its compact three-cylinder engine and thorough weight reduction. The compact SUV "ASX" (Japanese name: RVR), which receives a facelift this autumn, will also be displayed.
Furthermore, the company plans to exhibit a total of 11 vehicles, including the high-performance EV "i-MiEV Evolution" developed for the "Pikes Peak International Hill Climb." Additionally, last year'sTokyo Motor Showand this March'sGeneva Motor Show"MiEV House," which actively utilizes renewable energy and proposes a lifestyle with electric vehicles, will also be exhibited.
