A Rolls-Royce Dedicated to the Heroes of the Sky
While the founders of Rolls-Royce are known to be Charles Stewart Rolls, Frederick Henry Royce, and Claude Johnson, Charles Rolls was a car enthusiast who purchased his first automobile in 1896 at the age of 18, becoming a pioneer of the automotive industry. Simultaneously, he was a legendary hero in aviation history, being the first to fly non-stop across the English Channel in 1910.
The "Aviator Collection," a limited version of the Phantom Series II announced by Rolls-Royce, is a model dedicated to Charles Rolls and the "Supermarine S6B," which won the 1931 Schneider Trophy Race – a legendary seaplane speed race held from 1913 to 1931 – powered by a V12 Rolls-Royce R engine.
Production is planned for a limited run of 35 units, with the first vehicle unveiled at the "Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance" in the United States.
The exterior features a matte bonnet, window surrounds, and grille in a contrasting finish, all in a shade called "Aviator Grey."
The interior evokes an aircraft cockpit, with a metal-finished dashboard housing a clock from Torquemeters, engineered to aviation specifications. The speedometer, power reserve gauge, and fuel gauge feature matte black backgrounds.
The lower section of the mahogany dashboard is hand-finished to resemble an aircraft propeller. Additionally, the anodized transmission tunnel features a visible screw thread design, said to replicate the oil cooling pipes of the Supermarine S6B.
Furthermore, inside the glove compartment, a quote attributed to Rolls from 1908, after his flight with the Wright brothers, is inscribed: "The power of flight is as a fresh gift from the Creator, the greatest treasure yet given to man."
Additionally, the center console is adorned with a chrome plate bearing the words "Pioneer Aviator" and Rolls' handwritten signature.
Orders are currently being accepted for this Phantom Series II Coupe Aviator Collection.
