While its unannounced arrival was a "surprise," the model that truly surprised was its very presence.

On April 23rd, the first press day of the Beijing Motor Show, Lamborghini unveiled the "Urus," an all-new SUV concept car. When one mentions a Lamborghini SUV, the LM002, released in 1985, immediately comes to mind. It was powered by a 450-hp V12 engine, reaching a top speed of 210 km/h.LM002With only about 300 units produced before production ended in 1992, this marked the return of the SUV for "Rambo" after exactly 20 years.

Its styling is reminiscent of the company's recently released flagship model, the Aventador. Moreover, with that avant-garde design applied to an SUV body, its presence and impact are simply overwhelming.

While details of the powertrain are unclear, it's equipped with a powerful engine producing approximately 440 kW / 600 hp. The transmission is a full-time 4WD system, similar to that found in the Gallardo and Aventador, featuring a dual-clutch gearbox with shift paddles.

The body, measuring 4.99m long, 1.99m wide, and 1.66m high, is "significantly lighter than competing vehicles" through the "use of an intelligent mix of materials," according to the company. Inside, the center tunnel is constructed using a method called "Forged Composite," which utilizes carbon composite.

Externally, the 24-inch (!) wheels, incorporating some carbon parts, are eye-catching. The boldly designed front spoiler features an adjustable height function. The suspension also has an adjustment function, and the rear spoiler is also adjustable, achieving optimal approach angles, ample ground clearance, and aerodynamic characteristics that contribute to high-speed stability.

At present, it is purely a concept car, and mass production is undecided. However, a Lamborghini representative stated, "It has been very well received, and we are gaining confidence in this concept," suggesting that future developments are anticipated with excitement.

Following Lamborghini's tradition, the model name "Urus" is derived from a bull. Specifically, the Urus was a large wild bovine, an ancestor of domestic cattle, standing up to 1.8 meters at the shoulder, making it a fitting name for Lamborghini's SUV.
