8.4-liter V10, 814Nm!
The 2013 model of the Viper, Chrysler Group's proud supercar, has been revealed.
While the car is better known as the "Dodge Viper" under the "Dodge" name, a division of Chrysler Group, the 2012 model was skipped, and this fifth generation is the 2013 model, launched under the "SRT" brand.
The Viper is known for its competitive lap times on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The engine of note is an 8.4-liter V10, producing immense torque naturally aspirated, mounted in the front-mid position. It revs to 6,400 rpm, delivering a maximum output of 477kW (649ps) at 6,150 rpm and peak torque of 814Nm at 4,950 rpm. This represents an increase of 30kW (41ps) and 54Nm over the previous model. The transmission is a 6-speed manual, driving the rear wheels.
Alongside the powerful engine, the chassis and body have been lightened through the use of materials like carbon, aluminum, and magnesium. The entry model achieves a weight of 1,521kg, 45kg lighter than its predecessor. Furthermore, chassis rigidity is said to have increased by 50 percent compared to the previous generation.
The front-to-rear weight distribution is 49.6:50.4. To enhance handling, a stability and traction control system is equipped.
The wheelbase is 2,509mm. Body dimensions are 4,463mm in length, 1,941mm in width, and 1,246mm in height.
The fitted Pirelli "P ZERO" tires are bespoke, with rear dimensions of 355/30ZR19 and front 295/30ZR18.
In addition to the base model, there will be two grades: the "GTS," a higher trim with suspension modifications and a more luxurious interior. Both grades can be optioned with the "SRT Track Package." When this track package is selected, the brakes and tires are upgraded to Pirelli "P ZERO CORSA" tires, and the traction and stability control system, normally in two modes (on/off), gains "Sport" and "Track" modes, bringing the total to four. The wheels also become lighter.
Furthermore, SRT will return to the American Le Mans Series with the "GTS-R," a race version based on this Viper. It will compete in the production car-based GT class against rivals such as the Aston Martin "Vantage," BMW "M3 GT," Corvette "C6.R," Ferrari "458," Lotus "Evora," and Porsche "991 GT3 RSR." However, as its current output already exceeds the ALMS GT class regulations, a slight detune is anticipated.
