The F12berlinetta Unveiled
On the afternoon of the first press day at the Geneva Motor Show, a fierce battle was unfolding at the Ferrari booth among journalists and photographers from various countries. They vied for position to capture the moment the most powerful model in Ferrari's history would debut. As Chairman Luca Montezemolo stepped up to the microphone, strobes flashed brilliantly everywhere.
After his comment, "This completes the lineup of all new-generation Ferraris, both V12 and V8," the Ferrari F12berlinetta was revealed. This moment was one of the highlights of this Geneva Motor Show.
The design is a collaboration between Pininfarina and the Ferrari Styling Centre. While its elongated styling might not suggest it, the body size is actually a step smaller than its predecessor, the 599. The weight has also been reduced by 70kg.
The 6,262cc V12 direct-injection DOHC engine boasts a maximum output of 740 horsepower.Ferrari Four (FF)Considering that the FF's V12 unit, which is fundamentally the same, produces 660 horsepower, this is a considerably high-tuned engine. For reference, the 599 produced 620 horsepower.
Chairman Montezemolo maintained an air of unwavering confidence throughout. This confidence stemmed not only from his belief in the F12berlinetta but also significantly from the company's strong performance. "Ferrari's 2011 sales revenue was a robust 2.251 billion euros, a 17.3% increase year-on-year, with sales volume at 7,195 units, up 9.5% from the previous year," he stated.
The majestic presence of the F12berlinetta, in both Rosso Berlinetta and aluminum finishes, seemed to reflect the current momentum of Ferrari. It should also be noted that an improved version of the Ferrari California, with an additional 30 horsepower and a 30kg reduction in weight, was announced concurrently.
