Sharp Styling
Lightweight technology, such as the aluminum bonnet, is part of "Audi ultra," andMQBthanks to the MQB platform, the new A3 has achieved an 80kg weight reduction compared to its predecessor, reaching a curb weight of 1,175kg for the 1.4-liter TFSI model. The steeply raked C-pillar gives it a sporty, coupe-like appearance, and indeed, Audi describes its driving character as sharp and agile.
The signature Audi look is evident in the Singleframe grille and the combination of LED and xenon headlights. Optional LED daytime running lights and LED taillights are available, with a full LED lighting option also planned.
The dimensions are nearly identical to the previous model: 4,237mm long, 1,777mm wide, and 1,421mm high. However, the wheelbase has been extended by 23mm to 2,061mm.
The redesigned interior featuresAudi connecta modular infotainment system. The Ambition and Ambient lines come standard with an information display showing detailed 3D graphics. A panoramic sunroof is also available as an option.
Three Engines, Quattro to Follow
The lineup initially offers three engines: one diesel and two gasoline. All are four-cylinder units incorporating downsizing, direct injection, turbocharging, thermal management, and start-stop technology for improved fuel efficiency.
The diesel engine is a 2.0-liter TDI, producing 150ps (110kW) and 320Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0-100km/h in 8.6 seconds, with a top speed of 216km/h. Fuel consumption is 4.1 L/100km, and CO2 emissions are 106g/km.
The entry-level gasoline engine is the 1.4-liter TFSI, with 122ps (90kW) and 200Nm of torque, notable for delivering its peak torque from 1,500rpm. It achieves 0-100km/h in 9.3 seconds, with a top speed of 203km/h. Fuel consumption is 5.2 L/100km, and CO2 emissions are 120g/km.
The higher-spec model at launch is the 1.8-liter TFSI, producing 180ps (132kW) and 250Nm of torque (1,250-5,000rpm). Its direct injection system features Audi Valvelift System for variable valve lift and thermal management technology for rapid engine warm-up. It accelerates from 0-100km/h in 7.2 seconds, with a top speed of 232km/h. Fuel consumption is 5.6 L/100km, and CO2 emissions are 130g/km. Unlike other units which are paired with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard, this model comes with a 7-speed S tronic transmission.
All front-engine, front-wheel-drive variants can be equipped with optional magnetic suspension. A quattro all-wheel-drive version is scheduled for release later this year. Furthermore, a 1.6-liter TDI diesel engine is expected to join the lineup later this year. This engine boasts excellent fuel economy of 3.8 L/100km and CO2 emissions of 99g/km. Compressed natural gas (CNG) and electric/CNG hybrid e-gas versions are also under development.
While introduction to Japan is currently undecided, sales in Europe will begin in the spring, with prices starting from 21,600 euros.
Audi will also launch the A3 Sportback, a five-door version of the A3 with extensive customization options, featuring four gasoline and four diesel engines, as well as a cabriolet variant.
