Maintains Driving Dynamics Comparable to the Saloon Model
With a redesigned rear profile, the XF has taken on the form of a station wagon, or shooting brake, officially revealed as the "XF Sportbrake." Jaguar states that the weight increase due to the shape modification is less than 70kg, and that aerodynamics and torsional rigidity are on par with the saloon model. The dimensions are also nearly identical to the saloon, with only a 5mm increase in overall length.
The revised roofline extends rear headroom by 48mm. The luggage compartment is wide enough to accommodate golf clubs placed sideways. Its capacity is 550 liters in the standard 5-seater configuration. Folding the 60:40 split rear seats using buttons near the tailgate reveals a cargo area with a maximum depth of 1,970mm and a capacity of 1,675 liters.
The powertrain options include three engines: a 2.2-liter 4-cylinder diesel engine with a start-stop system, offering the best fuel economy among Jaguar engines, and two variants of a 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbo diesel engine, tuned for high performance. The top-spec "Diesel S" variant produces a maximum output of 202kW (275ps) and a maximum torque of 600Nm. All engines are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and are rear-wheel drive. Models equipped with the 3.0-liter V6 unit also feature paddle shifters on the steering wheel.
The rear suspension has been changed from the coil springs used in the saloon model to self-leveling air suspension to accommodate cargo loads, with dampers controlled 500 times per second.
The launch in the UK market is scheduled for the third quarter of 2012.
