Peugeot has announced its exhibition lineup for the 82nd Geneva Motor Show. The focus will be on the successor to its flagship 207, the "208," three models equipped with the "HYbrid4" diesel-hybrid system, and the SUV "4008" aimed at markets outside Europe.

The Reborn 200 Series

At this year's Geneva Motor Show, Peugeot will occupy a 2,700-square-meter booth, showcasing 30 production cars and concept cars. The model considered Peugeot's main contender is the "208" which was known by the development name A9. With the 208, the latest model in the 200 series, which boasts a 30-year history and has produced over 150 million units worldwide, Peugeot aims to become a top runner in the European B-segment. The slogan is "Re-generation."

Measuring 3962mm long, 1739mm wide, and 1460mm high, its dimensions are even more compact than its predecessor, the 207. However, rear legroom has been increased by 5cm. Furthermore, compared to the previous generation's 1.4-liter HDi engine model, it is 110kg lighter, and when compared under the same power output conditions, it is a remarkable 173kg lighter. The entry-level 208 achieves a weight of just 975kg.

The standard luggage capacity of 311 liters can be expanded to 1152 liters by folding down the rear seats.

The lineup includes five diesel engine models and five gasoline engine models, for a total of ten variants, with the choice of either a 3-door or 5-door configuration.

Among the diesel models, four out of the five will feature technologies collectively known as e-HDi, including regenerative braking, energy assist from the battery during startup, and an idling stop function, all designed to enhance fuel efficiency.

For gasoline engines, the new three-cylinder engine is expected to be popular for its ecological and economical performance. Compared to a four-cylinder engine of similar output, it is 21kg lighter and emits 25% less CO2. Comparing the entry-level models of the 207 and 208, the 208 achieves CO2 emissions of 99g/km, a reduction of 46g/km, and fuel consumption of 4.3L/100km, an improvement of 2L/100km.

Furthermore, Peugeot plans to incorporate idling stop technology into its 1.2-liter VTi engine (maximum output 60kW/6,000rpm, maximum torque 118Nm/2750rpm), the second-lowest grade among gasoline engines, by 2013. In the future, they aim for further efficiency improvements by introducing turbocharging and direct injection technologies to the 208's engines. Additionally, the rear bumper is made entirely from recycled materials, which alone can reduce oil consumption by 1,600 tons annually, highlighting its high environmental performance.

208-Based XY and GTi Concepts

Two concept cars based on the 208, the "XY Concept" and the "GTi Concept," will also be unveiled.

The XY Concept is a model with a strong urban image, featuring a special 16-layer paint that displays different hues depending on the viewing angle.

The GTi Concept, on the other hand, is a sporty model powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine, the same used in the RCZ THP 200. It boasts a maximum output of 147kW (200ps), a maximum torque of 275Nm, and a 6-speed manual transmission, achieving 0-100km/h in under 7 seconds.

Diesel Hybrid "HYbrid4" Also Nearing Launch

The "508 HYbrid4 Sedan," scheduled for release in the summer of 2012, will be the world premiere for a "HYbrid4" diesel-hybrid powertrain model, tailored for the European market's increasing preference for diesel. Also on display will be the "3008 HYbrid4", which was also shown at the Tokyo Motor Show, and the "508 RXH", exhibited at the Frankfurt Motor Show, characterized by its LED stripe resembling a lion's claw.

All models are equipped with a 2.0-liter HDiFAP diesel engine driving the front wheels, producing a maximum output of 163ps (120kW) and 300Nm of torque. An electric motor with an output of 27kW, generating 100Nm of rated torque and a peak of 200Nm, drives the rear wheels. With a combined maximum output of 200ps (147kW) and 500Nm of torque in 4WD mode, these vehicles are capable of EV driving in a mode called Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV). According to Peugeot, this system can reduce fuel consumption by 30% compared to an internal combustion engine of similar size and power.

The 4008 is Finally Unveiled

Responding to the global popularity of SUVs, the "4008" is a model targeting markets outside Europe. Created to fill a niche not covered by the 3008 and 4007, it is a compact SUV based on Mitsubishi Motors' "RVR." However, the design is distinctly Peugeot, with little resemblance to the base model. Features include a versatile interior and a large glass roof offering a panoramic view.
