A more powerful inline five-cylinder TFSI engine
The TT RS, Audi's top TT model, debuted in 2009, developed by quattro GmbH, the division responsible for Audi's high-end sports models like the R8 and RS series. Now, the TT RS plus has been announced as a further refined performance model. Like the TT RS, it will be available in both coupe and roadster variants.
The biggest highlight of the TT RS plus is its engine. Based on the newly developed, lightweight, and compact 2.5-liter inline five-cylinder TFSI unit for the TT RS, further power enhancements have resulted in a maximum output of 360 hp (an increase of 20 hp over the base model) and a peak torque of 465 Nm (an increase of 15 Nm). This formidable power is reliably transmitted to all four wheels via a 6-speed manual or 7-speed S tronic gearbox and the quattro system.
The 7-speed S tronic, a dual-clutch semi-automatic transmission, is equipped with a launch control system that optimizes throttle input during initial acceleration. The 0-100 km/h sprint is achieved in 4.1 seconds for the coupe S tronic model and 4.3 seconds for the manual. For the roadster, the S tronic version takes 4.2 seconds, and the 6-speed manual 4.4 seconds. Compared to the base TT RS coupe with a 6-speed manual, this represents a 0.3-second improvement. Considering that a rival, the Porsche Cayman R, accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 5 seconds, one can imagine the swiftness of the TT RS plus. The top speed for all models is 280 km/h.
Modern high-performance cars typically excel not only in performance but also in environmental efficiency, and the TT RS plus is no exception. It boasts a fuel consumption of 8.5 L/100 km for the coupe S tronic model and 8.6 L/100 km for the roadster.
Starting from 60,650 Euros
Audi is currently emphasizing lightweight technology, branded as 'Audi ultra,' as one of its core technologies. The TT RS plus follows this principle, featuring a hybrid body structure known as the 'Audi Space Frame,' which combines aluminum at the front with steel at the rear. This contributes to a curb weight of just 1,450 kg (for the coupe with a 6-speed manual), a notable characteristic. The power-to-weight ratio stands at an impressive 4.0 kg/hp.
Visually, it largely inherits the design of the TT RS, with subtle changes from the base model. These include specialized finishing on the single-frame grille mesh and the adoption of 19-inch, five-spoke forged wheels painted in black and red. The tires are sized 255/35R19. Additionally, the carbon fiber reinforced plastic door mirrors are exclusive items for this model.
In Germany, the price for the coupe with the 6-speed manual transmission starts at 60,650 Euros. The S tronic version is priced at 62,800 Euros, while the roadster variants are available for 63,500 Euros and 65,650 Euros, respectively.
