An Intriguing New Option Appears
Cadillac's entry-level model, the ATS, targets rivals such as the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. While this is a highly competitive segment, Cadillac's Vice President Dan Butler stated that the ATS was developed with the strong resolve that "success as a premium brand is impossible without establishing a presence here."
With its powerful styling that evolves Cadillac's "Art & Science" philosophy, its driving performance rigorously honed at the Nürburgring, and advanced features like the "CUE" infotainment system, the ATS is a compelling package. It's clear that an intriguing new option has arrived in this fiercely contested category.
ATS
The ATS measures 4643mm in length, 1805mm in width, and 1421mm in height. By actively using high-tensile steel and combining it with aluminum and magnesium, the lightweight body structure keeps the vehicle's weight down to 1542kg. In terms of dimensions, weight, and its near 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution, it is virtually identical to the BMW 3 Series.
Engine options include a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four producing 270 horsepower, a 2.5-liter engine with 200 horsepower, and a 3.6-liter V6 boasting 320 horsepower. A diesel engine is also planned for the future.
The styling follows Cadillac's recent design language, so it may not feel entirely new, but its refinement has increased. The coupe-like form compromises interior space, particularly for rear passengers, but this is a deliberate choice.
The noteworthy "CUE (Cadillac User Experience)" system allows for easy switching of instrument cluster displays and calling up various functions via steering wheel controls. It also features an 8-inch touchscreen for operating audio, navigation, and other functions in a tablet-like manner. Amidst premium brands adopting unique operating systems for their infotainment, CUE stands out as a trend-setting and intriguing system, befitting its later arrival.
Introduction to Japan is still undecided. However, this is a car that makes you want to try it.
