Five Doors, Yet Almost Identical in Length

The most obvious exterior feature of the Audi A1 Sportback is, of course, its five doors. However, its youthful, urban, and sporty styling isthe existing three-door modelcompletely unchanged.

And for good reason: according to Audi, the fundamental aspects, including the design, structure, and the lightweight, high-rigidity, and safe body utilizing high-strength steel, are the same as the A1. While the overall length remains nearly identical, the interior space has been increased by making the vehicle 6mm taller and wider. The wheelbase is 2,470mm, and the vehicle weight is 1,065kg. The Cd value is kept at 0.32.

There are six engine options. Among the gasoline engines are three types: a 1.2-liter TFSI with a maximum output of 86ps (63kW), a 1.4-liter TFSI with 122ps (90kW), and the top-of-the-line 1.4-liter TFSI with a maximum output of 185ps (136kW). The diesel engines will initially launch with two variants: a 1.6-liter TDI with a maximum output of 90ps (66kW) and a model with the same displacement producing 105ps (77kW). A 2.0-liter TDI with 143ps (105kW) is scheduled to be added later. The 7-speed S tronic transmission comes standard on the 1.4-liter TFSI model with the 185ps output. For other models, a manual transmission or an optional 7-speed S tronic can be selected for the 122ps 1.4-liter TFSI and the 90ps 1.6-liter TDI. With the S tronic, shift paddles are also available as an option.

In terms of environmental performance, the base model with the 1.2-liter TFSI engine achieves a fuel consumption of 5.1ℓ/100km. The 90ps 1.6-liter TDI (MT model) records a fuel consumption of 3.8ℓ/100km and CO2 emissions of 99g/km. This model boasts the highest environmental performance in the lineup.

There are 12 body colors available. A new color, "Samoa Orange," is introduced as a Sportback exclusive. Additionally, the 7-spoke wheels are also exclusive to the Sportback. Furthermore, additional features can be selected from a wide range of customization options. Audi offers two packages: the "Media Package," which combines media center functions, network connectivity via Bluetooth, and a multifunction leather sports steering wheel with a driver information system; and the "Style Package," which adds accent to the interior.

In Germany, the price for the base model 1.2 TFSI starts at 16,950 euros, and the 90ps 1.6 TDI is priced at 19,050 euros.

The world premiere will take place at the Tokyo Motor Show press conference on November 30th. You can watch the live stream of the event from the screen below.
