A Test Drive of Nissan's Masterpiece BEV, the Ariya | NISSAN
The Interior, Where Exceptional Quietness Was Pursued, Remains Remarkably Silent While Driving
Another appeal of the Ariya is its clean interior design. It features a liquid crystal panel and a wood-tone dashboard. The controls are touch-sensitive and integrated into the dashboard. It feels spacious and refreshing.
With a wheelbase of 2,775mm and the absence of an engine and transmission, the interior space is generous both front and rear. Furthermore, the floor is flat as there is no need for an exhaust pipe or propeller shaft.
The center console between the driver and front passenger seats slides forward and back electronically. When carrying larger items like a tote bag, you can slide the console back and place it on the floor between the seats. This is surprisingly practical.
The "ProPILOT 2.0" system, which enables following the vehicle ahead and hands-free driving within the same lane, now utilizes the "Michibiki" quasi-zenith satellite for more accurate road information than before. While GPS alone has an accuracy of 10-15 meters, the Ariya guides you with 50cm precision.
ProPILOT 2.0, which can be activated with the press of a button, is remarkably reliable. When switching from one highway to another at an interchange, the car automatically reduces speed to 60km/h and navigates the curve without any perceptible lateral G-force. All I had to do as the driver was rest my hands on the steering wheel.
Nissan Motor Corporation's product planners describe the interior as a "lounge" experience, citing the spacious cabin, flat floor, and rear seats with adjustable backrest angles.
With sound-insulating windshield and side windows, along with sound-absorbing and sound-deadening materials used throughout the body and even in the tires, the pursuit of quietness is evident. The cabin remains exceptionally silent even while driving.
The optional BOSE 10-speaker hi-fi system would be a great addition. Amazon Alexa is also available as an option, which is quite enjoyable. By subscribing to "docomo in Car Connect," you can stream Amazon Music via WiFi.
Activating Alexa via a button on the steering wheel or an icon on the liquid crystal monitor and saying, "Alexa, play Megan Thee Stallion," will play the "Explicit" version, not the "Clean" one.
The front fascia features slim LED headlights and a grille that appears as a single panel (a stylized, non-functional grille). The V-motion signature, also using LEDs, creates an aggressive yet appealing aesthetic.
The two shark fin antennas are for receiving signals from "Michibiki" and for the conventional communication system. This modern touch adds to the owner's sense of pride.
For myself, I'd choose a color like "Midnight Purple" or "Mid Ocean Blue" to accentuate the V-motion styling. The price for the B6 (FWD) is 5,390,000 yen.
