Test drive the world's most powerful SUV, the Aston Martin DBX 707, in Hokkaido | Aston Martin

Not Merely a High-Performance DBX V8

The test drive of Aston Martin's meticulously crafted high-performance SUV covers approximately 150 km, from Park Hyatt Niseko HANAZONO to Lake Shikotsu and then to New Chitose Airport. The route, featuring country roads with medium-speed corners winding through forests and long, straight stretches extending to the horizon, offers a quintessential Hokkaido driving experience.

While enjoying the spectacular scenery of Mt. Yotei and the Niseko mountain range through the windows, we cruised at town speeds on public roads around the hotel. In these conditions, what stands out is the complete absence of the ferocity one might expect from its nameplate's power. Even when encountering rough patches, the air suspension adeptly absorbs road imperfections, preventing any unpleasant vibrations or jolts from reaching the occupants. The ride quality is smooth and refined, akin to that of a luxury sedan.
The DBX707 is equipped with five drive modes: "Terrain" for off-road, "GT" prioritizing long-distance comfort, "Sport" for spirited driving, "Sport+" for maximum performance, and "Individual," which allows drivers to customize steering, suspension, and exhaust settings to their preference.

On the less trafficked country roads, we switched the rotary dial on the center console from "GT" mode to "Sport+" and increased the pace. The V8 twin-turbo's response to throttle inputs and the car's reaction to steering inputs sharpened, delivering a driving experience akin to a supercar.
Applying the brakes before a corner, the powerful carbon-ceramic brakes reliably scrubbed off speed. The controllability of the braking and the solid feel transmitted through the pedal were both impeccable.
After decelerating sufficiently and turning the steering wheel, the long nose tucked into the apex as if drawn by a magnet. Then, upon reaching the corner's apex and applying the throttle, the car began to accelerate with intense G-force.

The cornering behavior, characterized by an exceptional sense of unity between driver and machine, felt precisely like driving a DB-series sports car, making one completely forget it's an SUV exceeding five meters in length.
This refined cornering demeanor is undoubtedly aided by the car's inherent qualities as a sports car, including its front-rear weight distribution of 52:48. This is precisely why Aston Martin proclaims it "the fastest, most powerful, and best-handling SUV in the world."
What is truly remarkable is how these two seemingly disparate qualities—pure sports car-like performance and a luxurious, refined ride akin to a high-end sedan—are achieved at such an exceptionally high level. Furthermore, in every scenario, the machine's overwhelming sophistication, born from superior engineering, eliminates any hint of the ferocity one might anticipate from its specifications.

It is not merely a more powerful version of the DBX V8. It is a high-performance luxury SUV that has evolved significantly in all aspects, from driving dynamics to comfort—this is the true essence of the DBX707.
