Test drive of the Ferrari 296 GTS in Italy — A car that lets you savor the pure joy of driving to the fullest | Ferrari

The Roof Opens and Closes in 14 Seconds at Speeds Up to 45 km/h

After observing the exterior, I settled into the driver's seat. The instrument panel, designed to envelop the driver, is reminiscent of the 'SF90,' which debuted in 2019 as Ferrari's first mass-produced PHEV. The complete digitization of the interface, including the instrument cluster, is also similar to the SF90. The meters can be changed to various displays depending on the driving mode, and can also show navigation maps.

The seats and interior are finished in high-quality Italian leather, with exquisite stitching that evokes the craftsmanship of an Italian suit. Meanwhile, the real materials like chrome-finished aluminum and carbon fiber used on the steering wheel and center console create a 'racy' atmosphere. In recent years, the 'luxury sport' genre has become popular in the watch world, and this car perfectly fits that description. Like the exterior, sportiness and elegance are skillfully harmonized, creating a cockpit that excites just by looking at it.
I placed the ignition key, adorned with the Prancing Horse emblem, into the compartment on the center console and pressed the starter button. At this point, like a typical PHEV, the V6 twin-turbo behind me remained silent. Wanting to experience the GTS, I pulled the switch on the center console, and the roof smoothly retracted from the top of the A-pillar, transforming into a spider body in an instant.

This aluminum RHT can be opened or closed in 14 seconds while driving at speeds up to 45 km/h. When stowed, it splits into two and folds flat in front of the engine, ensuring no change in the engine bay's thermal characteristics. This design maintains aesthetic balance and achieves the same flat rear deck as the 296 GTB.
The rear section of the engine cover is made of glass, allowing a view of the compact V6 unit, which is positioned as low as possible to lower the center of gravity, directly impacting performance. This is a delightful touch for the owner.
