The Purosangue Arrives in Japan—Ferrari Japan President Explains Why It's Not an SUV | Ferrari

Sustainability is a Main Task for Ferrari

As night fell, the Purosangue made its appearance on a large special stage set up within the grounds of Ninnaji Temple, its V12 engine roaring.
While its overall height is clearly greater than that of existing Ferraris, giving it an SUV-like silhouette, the coupe body with its long nose and set-back cabin, reminiscent of traditional front-engine models, is composed of flowing, smooth curves that convey its identity as a Ferrari.
Incidentally, the adoption of rear-hinged rear doors was to improve ease of entry and exit and to keep the body as compact as possible.
The cabin, as expected from recent Ferrari GT models, gives an impression of luxury. The rear seats, fully independent bucket seats similar to the front, offer ample space for adults to relax in comfort. The use of certified recycled polyester for the Alcantara upholstery also reflects an approach to sustainability.
"Sustainability is a very important theme for Ferrari. It is a main task and also a goal. We set strict targets and are working to improve not only our products but also our entire operation, including our dealer network."
As Mr. Pastorelli states, sustainability is now an unavoidable path for Ferrari.
"Regarding our products, we are aiming for electrification with a roadmap of 60% by 2026 and 40% by 2030. However, this only signifies an increase in the proportion of electrified vehicles; we will continue to produce engines."
When Ferrari introduced the FF and GTC4Lusso, its first full four-seater, four-wheel-drive models, it was said to have attracted new customers and lowered the average age of owners by about 10 years. What kind of customers is the Purosangue targeting?
"We are receiving many requests from our existing customers, so we want to prioritize our relationship with them. Of course, we also hope that other customers will become new members of the Ferrari family through this car."
While specific numbers cannot be disclosed, Mr. Pastorelli stated that a considerable number of orders had already been received by the time of the Japan premiere. The global SUV boom appears to be reaching Ferrari as well.
