The Purosangue Arrives in Japan—Ferrari Japan President Explains Why It's Not an SUV | Ferrari
Ferrari's DNA Beyond the Numbers
In terms of performance, it boasts a top speed of 310 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds, and 0 to 200 km/h in 10.6 seconds, living up to its "thoroughbred" name.
"While people tend to focus on these numbers when discussing performance, I believe you can feel Ferrari's DNA through the emotions experienced while driving."
Mr. Pastorelli offered the driving position as an example, stating that despite being a four-door, full four-seater, it achieves a driving position consistent with other Ferraris.
"We always aim to develop products that meet our customers' needs. For the Purosangue, we received requests for a Ferrari that could comfortably seat four adults and offer easy ingress and egress, leading us to the four-door, full four-seater packaging."
"At the same time, as it is a Ferrari, there was a desire to retain the distinctive character of a sports car. It possesses the performance of a sports car like our traditional models, yet is enjoyable to drive and capable of going anywhere comfortably. This combination makes the Purosangue a unique proposition."
Mr. Pastorelli explained the background behind Ferrari's introduction of the Purosangue. In fact, Ferrari had previously developed a four-door prototype in response to customer requests. However, it was unable to achieve Ferrari's performance standards and was not commercialized.
The commercialization of the Purosangue this time is attributed to the adoption of the latest technologies, such as rear-wheel steering that independently controls the turning angle of the left and right rear wheels, and a newly developed active suspension system.
Incidentally, the world's first active suspension system combines hydraulic dampers with a motor driven by a 48V power supply to control damping force. It is effective in controlling body roll during cornering and also in controlling tire contact with the road when encountering high-frequency bumps, contributing to the realization of performance comparable to other Ferrari models.
