The Power Unit is the Same as the MP4-12C

On June 29, McLaren Automotive newly announced the open-body "MP4-12C Spider" as a successor model to the MP4-12C. The mid-mounted V8 3.8-liter twin-turbo enginethe 2013 model MP4-12C announced yesterdaydelivers 625ps, the same as the car announced yesterday. The body remains unchanged, employing a CFRP (carbon fiber) shell known as the carbon monocoque. Specific Spider features, such as the roof's opening mechanism, are expected to be announced soon.
