A 400-Meter Drive Course Set Up at the Venue

Precisely at 5 PM, when the press preview reception began, we boarded a shuttle bus arranged by Audi to enter the Frankfurt Messe. A white building, resembling a space station with its organic curves, appeared, taking our breath away. For this motor show, Audi had created a massive, special venue in a plaza within the Messe called the Agora Square.

Stepping into the venue, we found ourselves in a vast space reminiscent of a World Expo pavilion, the R8 e-tron, an electric version of the R8,along with hybrid models of the A8 and A6. Dozens of vehicles, from new models Audi plans to introduce in the near future to existing production models, were neatly displayed. All models shared an aggressive design, and the abundant lineup, featuring pure EVs, hybrids, and clean diesels, showcased the latest technologies for a new era, fully conveying the momentum of the company's continued success.

The highlight was the 400-meter drive course set up within the venue.the A1 e-tronandthe A3 e-tron,as well as the super sports car R8 GT, making its show premiere, all raced around the booth like an amusement park attraction, allowing visitors to enjoy a co-drive experience. It was a presentation that conveyed their assertion that cars, not mere objects, reveal their true charm when driven.

The New Era Mobility Concept "Urban Concept" Makes Its World Premiere!

The main attraction of the preview event on the 11th was the world premiere ofthe Audi Urban Concept & Audi Urban Concept Spyder. As previously reported by OPENERS, this vehicle is a 1+1 EV commuter developed by Audi to present a new era of mobility.

Audi positions this model as an innovative concept that fuses the aspects of a fun car, akin to racing or sports cars, with the elements of a city car, making it a potential trendsetter for new-era mobility.

Resulting in Lightweight Construction: A Vehicle Weight of 480kg Achieved!

At the same time, the R8 e-tronserves as the entry point to Audi's EV lineup.

The open-wheel body, reminiscent of classic Formula cars, is extremely compact at 3,219mm long, 1,678mm wide, and 1,189mm high. Furthermore, the use of materials like carbon fiber reinforced plastic and aluminum for the body and other components contributes to its lightweight design, achieving a remarkable weight of 480kg, which is a significant highlight.

The two motors mounted between the rear wheels generate a maximum output of 15kW and a peak torque of 47Nm. The 0-100 km/h acceleration takes 16.9 seconds, and the top speed is limited to 100 km/h. With a range of 73km, it's clear that this vehicle was developed with urban mobility in the new era as its primary focus.

At the time of the world premiere, Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG, stated on stage:

Audi Urban Future Summit Points Towards Future Vision

“As part of the Frankfurt Motor Show, Audi is hosting the Audi Urban Future Summit, inviting experts from various fields. This event involves in-depth discussions about the future of urban mobility, envisioning the year 2020. We aim to derive several visions from this summit and incorporate them into our future product planning processes. The crucial aspect is personal mobility, and the Audi Urban Concept, in particular, represents a completely new model that is not bound by the traditions of the Audi brand.”

Cars are an integral part of the urban landscape and must evolve in sync with the times. Therefore, building cars means building society and guiding the people who live in it towards new lifestyles. Audi's presentation at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show conveyed the company's strong commitment to this philosophy as an automobile manufacturer.
