Compact Motor Exceeding 100ps Mounted at the Rear
The 599 GTB Fiorano, which debuted at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show, is Ferrari's flagship model. Equipped with a 6.0-liter V12 engine (620ps, 62kgm), it boasts a 0-100km/h acceleration of 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 330km/h, befitting its position at the pinnacle of Ferrari.
The "HY-KERS" unveiled this time is an experimental vehicle developed based on the "599 GTB Fiorano." The engine mounted at the front is the same 6.0-liter V12 as the 599. This is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch F1 transmission and a compact motor with a maximum output exceeding 100ps at the rear.
Lithium-ion batteries are used for the secondary battery. As these batteries are positioned beneath the floor in the center of the body, the center of gravity has been successfully lowered compared to the base 599. Furthermore, due to their placement under the floor, the interior space, including trunk capacity, is said to be equivalent to the 599.
Drivetrain Remains Rear-Wheel Drive
The drivetrain inherits the rear-wheel drive layout from the base vehicle. Power from the engine and motor is controlled by the 7-speed dual-clutch F1 transmission, offering modes for motor only, engine only, and motor + engine.
Regenerative braking is also employed, with technology from the "KERS" (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) used in the 2009 F1 machine "F60" being fed back.
Ferrari has not publicly announced plans for the commercialization of this hybrid model at this stage. However, as the culmination of a 5-year plan initiated in 2007 to improve fuel efficiency and emissions performance, the emergence of a hybrid model is highly probable.
BRAND HISTORY
Many fans are captivated by the emblem known as "Cavallino Rampante," or the "prancing horse" in Japan. The car that ignites the crowd with its fierce performance on the circuit and enthralls onlookers with its elegant silhouette and piercing sound on the street is FERRARI. Whether in F1 or in its road cars, this brand, which pursues the ultimate in speed, still carries the strong passion of its founder, Enzo Ferrari.
Born in Modena, Italy, in 1898, Enzo was inspired by a race he witnessed in Bologna at the age of 10, and eventually decided he wanted to become a racing driver. His singular ambition steadily moved towards realization, and in 1920, Enzo became a test driver for Alfa Romeo. In the same year, he participated in the Targa Florio as an Alfa driver, achieving a commendable second place.
However, Enzo's interest eventually shifted towards managing a racing team, leading him to establish Scuderia Ferrari in 1929 and take over Alfa's racing activities. Despite demonstrating his prowess, his relationship with Alfa ended in 1939. After World War II, in 1947, he resumed racing activities with his own V12 engine, the "Ferrari 125." This marked the beginning of Ferrari's journey as a sports car brand.
Subsequently, Ferrari came under the Fiat umbrella. Currently, under the leadership of President Luca Montezemolo, who also serves as chairman of the Fiat Group, the brand continues to enhance its allure. The lineup consists of five models: the V12-powered "599" and "612 Scaglietti," the mid-engine V8 sports cars "F430" and "F430 Spider," and the ultra-sporty "430 Scuderia."
