Body Dimensions: 5019mm (L) x 2140mm (W) x 1360mm (H)
The Aston Martin Rapide is the production version of the "Rapide Concept" announced at the 2006 Detroit Motor Show, and it marks Aston Martin's return to a four-door model after a long hiatus.
The body measures 5019mm in length, 2140mm in width, and 1360mm in height. It is powered by a 5935cc V12 engine producing a maximum output of 477ps at 6000rpm and a peak torque of 61.2kgm at 5000rpm. The transmission is a 6-speed automatic "Touchtronic 2" with paddle shifters.
Incidentally, the engine is handcrafted by artisans, one unit at a time. This unit delivers a performance of 0-100km/h in 5.3 seconds and a top speed of 303km/h.
Deliveries Begin Early 2010
The exterior design leverages Aston Martin's identity, making it instantly recognizable as an Aston Martin. However, its four-door form sets it apart from existing models.
The interior features independent four-seater configuration, and like other Aston Martin models, it is lavishly appointed with the finest leather, wood, and other luxurious materials. Equipment such as the Bang & Olufsen audio system and twin rear-seat DVD screens enhances comfort on long journeys. The trunk offers a capacity of 301 liters, expandable to 750 liters by folding down the rear seatbacks.
Deliveries of the Rapide are scheduled to begin in early 2010.
BRAND HISTORY
Currently garnering global attention as the coolest sports car brand, Aston Martin of the UK was founded in 1914 by Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford. The company, initially a small venture, adopted the Aston Martin name after achieving success in hill climb races known as Aston Clinton, and has since left a brilliant mark on the history of motorsport and sports cars.
Conversely, the company has faced numerous financial crises, each time receiving a helping hand, charting a truly tumultuous course. For instance, David Brown, who became owner in 1947, left his name on sports cars like the "DB2" and racing machines like the "DBR1" through his excellent management skills and engineering acumen. More recently, Ford's sale of its shares to an investment group led by David Richards, founder of Prodrive, is still fresh in memory.
However, Aston Martin has consistently pursued the creation of sports cars imbued with potent power and exquisite style throughout its history. The current lineup includes the "V8 Vantage" and "DB9." Furthermore, a new flagship model, the "DBS," which will succeed the "Vanquish," is expected to make its debut in Japan in the near future.
