The Ultimate Version of the Ultimate Roadster

Mercedes-BenzThe flagship roadster of Mercedes-Benz, the 'SL-Class,' underwent a full model change in 2001. The current generation, the fifth since the gullwing-door '300SL,' presented a fresh image with its 'Vario-roof' retractable hardtop. Furthermore, it solidified its impression as a cutting-edge sports car by adopting innovative electronic brake control and electro-hydraulic suspension.

Building upon this, AMG enhanced its performance by leveraging technology honed in motorsports, resulting in the 'SL65 AMG.' Its most distinctive feature is the engine: based on the 5.5-liter V12 twin-turbo engine found in the 'SL600,' it boasts increased displacement and modified turbochargers. The resulting 6-liter V12 twin-turbo unit achieves an 112ps increase in output and a 200Nm boost in torque, delivering a formidable 612ps and a maximum torque of 1000Nm.

Consequently, the SL65 AMG is equipped with an AMG-enhanced braking system featuring composite discs. Additionally, specially tuned AMG sports suspension supports its immense power. A limited-slip differential is also standard.

With the 2008 minor change, the exterior gained an even more aggressive presence, featuring a single-bar radiator grille, an AMG-specific front spoiler, and a rear spoiler with a diffuser design.

BRAND HISTORY
When tracing the history of automobiles, we arrive at two German pioneers: Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz. It is common knowledge that these two men independently created gasoline-powered automobiles between 1885 and 1886, laying the foundation for the automotive society. Although their respective automotive companies were once seen as rivals, they joined forces to overcome the post-World War I recession, leading to the establishment of Daimler-Benz AG through their merger in 1926.

The name 'Mercedes,' bestowed upon the products, originated when Emil Jellinek, a Daimler customer, named the cars after his eldest daughter in exchange for taking on exclusive sales rights outside Germany. The trademark was officially registered by Daimler in 1902.

Thus born, Mercedes, and subsequently Mercedes-Benz, has consistently led the way in automotive development, actively introducing the latest technologies such as the safety passenger cell, airbags, ESP (Electronic Stability Program), and Night View.
