A Glimpse into the Future of Lexus

The "LF-CC Concept," for which information has now been released, is a model that previews Lexus's future mid-size coupe (a Lexus in the D-segment), and it is anticipated that the 2014 Lexus IS will be styled in a similar direction.

The exterior builds upon Lexus's existing design language, with "L" motifs incorporated throughout and, of course, the adoption of the new Lexus signature, the "spindle grille." The low front spoiler is composed of complex surfaces, and the running lights are integrated into the bumper below the headlights.

The side view gives an impression of increasing mass towards the rear, which Lexus states emphasizes the car's rear-wheel-drive nature. A distinctive line rises from the lower body, through the rear wheel arch, and into the taillights.

Moving to the rear, the design is characterized by a sense of upward motion, with distinctive, three-dimensional taillights that repeat the "L" shape. The shark fin antenna on the roof integrates the high-mounted stop lamp.

The body color is a metallic shade called "Fluid Titanium," which, with its rich shadows, accentuates the car's lines.

New Interior Innovations

Only exterior images have been released so far, and details of the interior remain unclear. However, it appears that the interior will also incorporate new challenges for the future of Lexus, while inheriting its traditional design philosophy.

Specifically, the dashboard is clearly divided into two zones: an upper "display zone" composed of screens, and a lower "operation zone" housing the shift lever and controls. The aim is to create a spacious interior and a user-friendly, sporty cockpit that allows the driver to concentrate on driving.

The interior color scheme is said to be finished in amber-colored leather, creating an elegant and warm space that contrasts with the exterior coloring, according to Lexus.

A New Hybrid Powertrain with Class-Leading Environmental Performance

The powertrain will combine a newly developed 2.5-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine, featuring Toyota's D-4S direct injection technology and the Atkinson cycle to enhance thermal efficiency by increasing the expansion ratio over the compression ratio, with Lexus's renowned hybrid system. This powertrain is expected to be sequentially adopted in Lexus production models going forward.

With CO2 emissions below 100g/km and an expected output of over 2ps per gram of CO2 emitted,

Lexus expresses confidence in its upcoming completion, aiming for the highest level of performance in the D-segment by balancing dynamic capability with high environmental performance, befitting its sporty image.

The official announcement at the Paris Motor Show 2012 is scheduled for September 27th. It appears a new contender, eagerly awaited for further updates, will emerge in the highly competitive D-segment.
