German automaker Daimler has announced the 2009 release of the limited model "SLR Stirling Moss," designed with the legendary SLR 300 from the 1950s as its motif.

The SLR 300 Reimagined for Today
Stirling Moss, whose name graces the car, was a heroic British racing driver who led the SLR 300 to victory in the 1955 Mille Miglia. This model is a special car bearing his name.
While based on the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, the body is entirely new. With its small gullwing doors and the twin domes behind the driver, it faithfully recreates the features of the SLR 300, making it an irresistible finish for Mercedes fans.
The engine is the same AMG-developed 5.5-liter V8 supercharger found in the "722 Edition" announced in October 2008. It produces a maximum output of 650 ps and a peak torque of 83.6 kgm, boasting exceptional performance with a top speed of 350 km/h and 0-100 km/h acceleration in 3.5 seconds.
A Strictly Limited Production of 75 Units
The body is made entirely of carbon fiber for weight reduction. Although it is an open-top two-seater with a classic design lacking a windscreen and side windows, it was developed using wind tunnels, incorporating cutting-edge aerodynamic technology.
With performance befitting a supercar in both its engine and body, the "SLR Stirling Moss" prioritizes straight-line stability at high speeds. Downforce has been meticulously studied, with measures akin to those on racing cars, such as a fully covered underbody and a rear diffuser. Furthermore, powerful braking systems, including carbon-ceramic brakes and a retractable air brake, are standard equipment.
Production of the SLR Stirling Moss is scheduled to begin after the SLR McLaren ceases production in May 2009. Subsequently, from June to December, a limited run of just 75 units will be produced at McLaren's factory in the UK for the global market. Its popularity as a collector's item is assured. The anticipated sales price is 750,000 euros (approximately 93.75 million yen).
BRAND HISTORY
When tracing the history of automobiles, two German pioneers emerge: Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz. It is common knowledge that these two men independently created gasoline-powered automobiles between 1885 and 1886, laying the foundation for the automotive society. Although their respective companies were once rivals, they joined forces to overcome the post-World War I recession, leading to the merger and establishment of Daimler-Benz AG in 1926.
The name "Mercedes," given to the products, originated when Emil Jellinek, a customer of Daimler's, had his eldest daughter's name used as the brand name in exchange for undertaking sales outside of Germany. It was registered as a trademark by Daimler-Benz AG in 1902.
Thus born, Mercedes, and subsequently Mercedes-Benz, has continued to lead the automotive world by actively introducing the latest technologies such as the safety passenger cell, airbags, ESP (Electronic Stability Program), and Night View, consistently remaining at the forefront of automotive development.
