Echoing the SL 63 AMG
The revised C 63 AMG offers more dynamic performance. The front design, reminiscent of the SL 63 AMG, features a new radiator grille with a large three-pointed star, wing-type louvers extending horizontally, a front apron painted in high-gloss black with a lower cross-member, AMG special daytime running lights, and side air outlets. The bonnet is made of aluminum, and the material of the clear lenses for the headlamps has also been changed. The optional Intelligent Light System (ILS) is said to provide a particularly wide field of vision.
The wheels are fitted with fat tires, 235/40R18 at the front and 255/35R18 at the rear. The lightweight 5-twin-spoke alloy wheels are painted in titanium grey, giving it a sharp appearance. The rear design also evokes the SL 63 AMG, with a distinctive diffuser and the AMG sports exhaust system with chrome-plated twin tailpipes.
The transmission is also the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT (7-speed automatic) found in the SL 63 AMG. This replaces the torque converter used in conventional automatic transmissions with a multi-plate clutch, eliminating torque transfer loss and improving response.
Because there is no slippage from the torque converter, it is also more fuel-efficient. Among the four driving modes, the most fuel-efficient "Controlled Efficiency" (C mode) achieves a European combined fuel consumption of 12.0 L/100 km (8.3 km/L) for the sedan and 12.3 L/100 km (8.1 km/L) for the estate. This represents an improvement of approximately 10 percent in fuel efficiency compared to the previous model, with a reduction of 1.4 L (0.8 km) and 1.3 L (0.7 km) respectively. It is also noteworthy that CO2 emissions are kept down to 280 g/km for the sedan and 288 g/km for the estate.
In addition to C mode, the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT offers four shift programs: S and S+ for sporty driving, and M for manual mode. The S+ and M modes achieve ultra-fast shifts in just 100 milliseconds.
AMG Performance Package Delivering 487 hp
The engine remains the same naturally aspirated V8 DOHC 6.2-liter unit, with no change to the maximum output of 336 kW (457 hp) at 6,800 rpm and maximum torque of 600 Nm (61.2 kgm) at 5,000 rpm. Performance figures are 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds for the sedan and 4.6 seconds for the estate, with the speed limited to 250 km/h by European agreement.
For those seeking even higher performance, the AMG Performance Package is available as an option. This package increases the maximum output to 358 kW (487 hp), achieving 0-100 km/h in 4.4 seconds for the sedan and 4.5 seconds for the estate.
Furthermore, the AMG sports suspension has been further refined with new dampers and springs, improving ride comfort. The AMG speed-sensitive steering has a sporty gear ratio of 13.5:1 and, thanks to the adoption of electric power steering, has also contributed to improved fuel efficiency. The interior features redesigned meters and a new 3-spoke AMG Performance steering wheel with aluminum paddle shifters on the back.
First-Time Feature: "Telematics"
S-ClassandCLSare equipped with 11 driving assistance systems. Utilizing the latest radar, cameras, and sensors, a high level of safety has been achieved.
Specifically, these include Adaptive Highbeam Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, and Active Blind Spot Assist. Additionally, the "Telematics" function, which allows internet access via the center console, is a new feature for this model and is planned for gradual adoption in other classes.
According to Daimler, in the three and a half years since its launch, 17,000 units of the C 63 AMG have been sold, with 88 percent being sedans and 12 percent estates. The price for the new C 63 AMG in Germany is set at €71,340.5 (approximately ¥8.06 million) for the sedan and €73,899 (approximately ¥8.35 million) for the estate. The AMG Performance Package is an additional €7,166.2 (approximately ¥810,000) for the sedan and €6,471.7 (approximately ¥730,000) for the estate.
