AMG Specification Adopted for the Sleek 4-Door Saloon

The "CLS 63 AMG" was created for those who prefer a more distinctive design for their sleek four-door saloon. Changes include a modified hood, bumper, and front grille, with a unique design for the front fenders. Further distinguishing features compared to the normal model are an aggressive rear diffuser, an exhaust system with four tailpipes, LED daytime running lights, and 19-inch five-spoke alloy wheels.

The sporty interior is comprised of walnut trim, AMG sports seats, and a three-spoke steering wheel with aluminum paddle shifters.

While the engine has been downsized to 5.5 liters, twin-turbocharging produces a maximum output of 386 kW (525 hp) at 5500 rpm and a peak torque of 699 Nm (71.3 kgm) between 1750-5000 rpm. Combined with the 7-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT, it achieves 0-60 mph acceleration in 4.4 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph (250 km/h). Despite this performance, fuel economy is said to be 33 percent better than the model with the naturally aspirated 6.3-liter engine. This is largely due to the innovative AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT transmission, which does not use a torque converter.

For those who find this performance insufficient, an optional AMG Performance Package is available. This package delivers a maximum output of 410 kW (558 hp) and peak torque of 799 Nm (81.5 kgm), achieving 0-60 mph acceleration in 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 186 mph (299 km/h), offering even higher acceleration capabilities.

Pricing has not yet been disclosed, but sales are scheduled to begin in the US in the summer of 2011.

BRAND HISTORY
When tracing the history of the automobile, we arrive at two Germans, Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz, as its pioneers. It goes without saying that in 1885-86, these two men independently created gasoline-powered automobiles, laying the foundation for the automotive society. Their respective car companies were sometimes seen as rivals, but to overcome the post-World War I recession, they joined forces, and Daimler-Benz AG was established through their merger in 1926.

The name "Mercedes," given to the products, originated when Emil Jellinek, a customer of Daimler's, had his eldest daughter's name used for the brand in exchange for taking over sales outside of Germany. It was registered as a trademark by Daimler-Benz in 1902.

Thus born, Mercedes, and subsequently Mercedes-Benz, has continued to lead the automotive world by actively introducing the latest technologies such as the safety passenger cell, airbags, ESP (Electronic Stability Program), and Night View, consistently remaining at the forefront of automotive development.
