Pilates, Known as Moving Meditation: An Introduction | BEAUTY

A Workout for Focusing on the "Now" and "Yourself"

This time, I'd like to talk about the popular practice of Pilates! Pilates is something you see everywhere lately, on social media and in magazines. One of my favorite K-pop idols also does Pilates, so about a year ago, I started it with the desire to achieve a similar physique.

What's the Difference Between Yoga and Pilates?

What do you think is the difference between yoga and Pilates? Simply put, Pilates is an exercise. Its goal is to strengthen the inner muscles and core, and to train the body healthily. Yoga, on the other hand, aims to connect the mind and body through breathing techniques and meditation, achieving a stable state of mind and body.
There's also a difference in breathing: Pilates uses "chest breathing," while yoga uses "abdominal breathing."
Personally, I love both yoga and Pilates, so I tend to do yoga when I want to relax, and Pilates when I want to move and train!

There have been many changes since I started practicing Pilates consistently! First, the headaches caused by stiff shoulders have significantly improved. I used to complain about stiff shoulders so often it became a habit, but by doing Pilates, I started moving muscles that I normally wouldn't, and the stiffness disappeared as if by magic!
Furthermore, by strengthening the inner muscles, it enhances the core, supporting the correction of spinal and pelvic alignment for improved posture. My previously hunched posture naturally straightened, leading to better posture. It seems that continued practice can lead to improvements in skeletal misalignment and muscle weakness!

Pilates has many poses, and as I continue each session, trying new movements and slightly more challenging poses becomes one of the joys. I also upload videos of myself trying new poses on my Instagram and Stories, so please check them out!
Pilates is also called "moving meditation" because it involves introspection while moving. During Pilates, my focus is intensely on the "now," and after the session, my self-affirmation naturally increases.
Our bodies and minds are connected, so please try to find and challenge yourself with things that excite you, even if they are small.
