Make Yourself Your Ally Through Mindfulness

This time, I'll introduce my recommended apps and notebooks for dealing with my negative self, focusing on "How I'm Learning to Navigate My Own Mind When I'm Feeling Negative."

Text by TANIOKU Eri

YouTubeI was talking about negative thinking, and it turns out both of us are super negative!
When I tell people I meet for the first time that I tend to think negatively, they're always surprised. But in the past, I lacked confidence and often found myself dwelling on negative thoughts about things.
If I don't update my Instagram for work, I worry my followers will forget me and my numbers will drop. But then, I don't have the confidence to post selfies... Looking at other people's Instagram feeds, they seemed so vibrant, and for a while, even looking at Instagram felt draining. There was a period when the negativity just wouldn't stop.

That's when I started practicing mindfulness, something even beginners can do!
Mindfulness is the state of bringing your mind to the "present moment," escaping from a state of mental distraction.
I was shocked to learn that humans are said to think about 60,000 things a day.
So, tired of comparing myself to others on Instagram, I decided to try mindfulness every morning using the app Relook.
Relook is an app supervised by doctors that uses scientifically effective audio to help anyone easily fall asleep or experience meditation.
I try to focus on my breathing, but at first, I'd get distracted by outside noises, thoughts about tomorrow's plans, or things from yesterday – thoughts just kept coming.
Like strength training, it took repeated practice until I gradually became able to focus my attention solely on my breath.
After about a year of continuing, my mind felt incredibly clear and refreshed!
I also became more aware of what I was constantly thinking. Previously, when negative thoughts arose, I'd dwell on them, feeling unsettled. But now, I can recognize when I'm having negative thoughts and shift my focus to something else.
Since starting my daily morning mindfulness practice, I've become aware of my current feelings and thoughts. I can pause, reconsider, and consistently make the best choices.
It's also recommended to occasionally write down your current feelings honestly in a notebook. Writing helps clear your mind and allows you to become more aware of your emotions.

When I feel overwhelmed with emotions, I write them down in my notebook, and it often looks like a string of incantations! Since they are all my honest feelings, it's important not to judge them but to acknowledge them.
In this age of information overload, it's easy to get swept away and ignore our own feelings. So, please try mindfulness or journaling to connect with your emotions!
