A New Watch Enveloped in Exquisite Radiance

A. Lange & Söhne has released the new "Saxonia Flach," featuring a dial with a goldstone layer on its surface, where fine particles gleam in a copper hue. Limited to 50 pieces, this watch is crafted from 18k white gold and paired with a lustrous black leather strap and an 18k white gold pin buckle, enveloping the entire timepiece in a beautiful sheen.
In 2018, A. Lange & Söhne introduced the "Saxonia Flach" with a blue goldstone layer, offering a subtle interplay of blue and red luminescence. This new iteration marks the first time the brand has utilized the rare black goldstone. Goldstone, a type of glass containing copper, was discovered in Venice in the 17th century. The manufacturing process involves heating the copper-infused glass and carefully pouring the molten material onto a solid silver dial, creating a surface where minute crystals form and sparkle.
The functions of this watch are limited to hours and minutes, with only slender hour and minute hands and bar hour markers adorning the dial. The slim bezel surrounding the gold case provides a sense of visual spaciousness and highlights the allure of the rare material. Furthermore, this elegant timepiece measures a comfortable 40mm in diameter, with uniquely curved lugs ensuring a pleasant fit on the wrist.
The movement side of this watch reveals the intricate mechanics characteristic of Lange timepieces. It is powered by the manually wound L093.1 caliber, developed and manufactured in-house. Despite its exceptionally slim profile of 2.9mm, the thinnest ever for A. Lange & Söhne, it offers a power reserve of three days. The assembly, executed using the double-assembly method, and the hand-finished decorative elements adhere to Lange's highest standards of quality.
A hallmark of A. Lange & Söhne's quality is the three-quarter plate, meticulously chamfered, polished, and adorned with Glashütte ribbing. The chamfered edges of the mirror-polished cover plate are expertly hand-finished to align with the three-quarter plate, creating a visually stunning exterior.
Through the sapphire crystal case back, one can admire the beautifully decorated barrel and minute wheel, integrated into the mainplate with a sunburst finish. The three screwed gold chatons, housing the train wheels that transmit power from the barrel to the escapement, are hand-polished by artisans. Beneath the balance cock, fitted with a swan-neck spring, the free-sprung balance oscillates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour.
