A Commemorative Model Celebrating the Maison's Founding and Revival

December 7th holds special significance for A. Lange & Söhne. On this day in 1845, Ferdinand Adolph Lange laid the foundation for German watchmaking in Glashütte, Germany. Furthermore, in 1990, the year of German reunification, his great-grandson Walter Lange took the first step towards reviving the brand.

This model marks the 35th anniversary since that pivotal moment.

A key feature of this new release is the use of "Honey Gold 750," a proprietary gold alloy developed by the manufacture, for the case – a first for the Lange 1 Daymatic. This material, with its warm luster, elegantly complements the brown dial crafted from 925 silver.

With a case diameter of 39.5mm and a thickness of 10mm, the size strikes a balance between comfortable wear on the wrist and a sleek profile under a shirt cuff. The well-proportioned design, along with revised lug and bezel styling, creates a sense of lightness.

First presented in 2010, the Lange 1 Daymatic is distinguished by its mirrored layout, reminiscent of the original Lange 1. The hours and minutes are displayed on the right side of the dial, while the subsidiary seconds and outsize date are positioned on the left.

Furthermore, a retrograde day-of-the-week display encircles the left periphery of the dial, replacing the power reserve indicator found on the manually wound Lange 1. This calendar complication sets this model apart within the Lange 1 family.

The brown dial features expressive details, such as subtly recessed hour and minute markers. The outsize date is presented with white numerals against a brown background, harmonizing with the overall dial aesthetic. A taupe-colored, hand-stitched alligator strap is secured by a buckle made of solid Honey Gold.

The watch is powered by the manufacture's automatic Calibre L021.1 movement, comprising 426 individual parts. Its unique construction features four separate bridges, each secured by screws, which together form a classic three-quarter plate upon assembly.

The large central rotor combines a 21-carat gold center segment with a platinum 950 counterweight for efficient winding. Four slender spokes absorb shocks, protecting the movement. The power reserve is 50 hours when fully wound. Traditional finishing, including hand-engraved balance cocks, Glashütte stripes, and screwed gold chatons, can be admired through the sapphire crystal case back.

Antony de Haas, Director of Product Development, commented: "With its distinctive design, sophisticated manufacture movement, and handcrafted finishing, the Lange 1 Daymatic Honey Gold emerges as a highly individual timepiece for enthusiasts of automatic watches. The combination of Lange's proprietary case material and an unusual color palette further elevates this iconic staple."

For A. Lange & Söhne, marking both its 180th anniversary and the 35th anniversary of its brand revival, this Honey Gold model stands as a symbol of tradition and innovation.
