A. Lange & Söhne's new
A. LANGE & SÖHNE | 1815
German watchmaker A. Lange & Söhne has unveiled the "1815" as its new release for Spring 2025. Embodying the brand's slogan "NEVER STAND STILL," this new model upholds traditional design codes while incorporating a newly developed movement, signifying an evolution befitting the modern era.
As expected from Lange. The epitome of classic.
The model name "1815" is derived from the birth year of the maison's founder, Ferdinand Adolph Lange. This new release, embodying the precision, functionality, and elegance he pursued, serves as a bridge connecting the maison's tradition, past, and future.
The case is available in two materials: 18k white gold (750 white gold) and 18k pink gold (750 pink gold). Both are finished in a compact size of 34.0mm in diameter and 6.4mm in thickness. The form, which sits comfortably on the wrist without being overly assertive, achieves a balance of classical beauty and modern wearability, offering a sophisticated impression that blends seamlessly into business settings.
The bezel features a subtle step, framing the meticulously designed dial. Details such as the railway-style minute track, Arabic numerals, and the sub-seconds dial at 6 o'clock strongly evoke the pocket watches Lange once produced. The combination of a blue dial and lancet hands further enhances the classic ambiance of the "1815."
The movement is the newly developed manual-winding Caliber L152.1. This movement, the 75th developed since the brand's re-establishment, blends tradition with modern precision engineering. It features a free-sprung balance spring and a large, hand-adjusted balance wheel, ensuring stable accuracy. The 72-hour power reserve also contributes to its reliable timekeeping performance.
The sapphire crystal case back offers a view of the beautifully decorated movement. The three-quarter plate finished with Glashütte ribbing, the hand-engraved balance cock, blued screws, and jewel bearings set in gold chatons truly make it a work of art.
The white gold model is fitted with a blue leather strap, while the pink gold model comes with a reddish-brown strap. Both are equipped with polished pin buckles in matching gold, showcasing craftsmanship down to the finest detail.
Regarding this new piece, Head of Product Development Anthony de Haas commented, "The challenge with the new 1815 was to achieve more elegant proportions while simultaneously maintaining the timepiece's simplicity and functionality. Our watchmakers succeeded in extending the power reserve to 72 hours and incorporating a balance wheel, despite the smaller case diameter."
The "1815" masterfully embodies the fusion of classic and modern, and the brand's philosophy of continuous evolution built on tradition. With its understated size, refined design, and details reflecting fine craftsmanship, it stands as a model that pursues the essence of mechanical watchmaking.
