A Moonwatch Featuring a Charming Snoopy in an Astronaut Suit

In 1970, NASA presented the "Silver Snoopy Award" to commend OMEGA's Speedmaster for its role in space exploration and the rescue of Apollo 13. To commemorate the award's 50th anniversary, OMEGA has unveiled the Speedmaster "Silver Snoopy Award" 50th Anniversary Model.

A Case Back Adorned with a Snoopy on a Space Journey Adds to the Appeal

In 1970, OMEGA received the "Silver Snoopy Award," presented to individuals and companies who have made significant contributions to the success of manned spaceflight. This award recognized OMEGA's unique contributions, including the role of the Speedmaster in space exploration and the rescue of Apollo 13.
Exactly 50 years later, OMEGA is celebrating this milestone with the "Speedmaster "Silver Snoopy Award" 50th Anniversary" model. This timepiece features a novel design that merges animation and watchmaking artistry, embodying a profound tribute to Snoopy.
The first detail to capture attention is Snoopy's figure on the blue subdial at 9 o'clock. This Snoopy, depicted in an astronaut suit through embossing on a silver medallion, mirrors the silver pin awarded to "Silver Snoopy Award" recipients by NASA astronauts. The dial itself is also crafted from silver, laser-engraved with "Ag925." Three subdials, angled indexes, and hands are set against this backdrop, all finished with a blue PVD coating.
The most striking feature of this model is its case back, depicting a deep black universe. Snoopy, aboard the Command Service Module (CSM), is rendered on a magic hand. As the chronograph seconds hand moves, Snoopy embarks on a journey around the far side of the moon, tracing the path once taken by the Apollo 13 astronauts.
The moon is depicted on sapphire crystal using a unique micro-structured metallization technique, with the Earth also designed on the far side. This Earth-shaped disc rotates once per minute, synchronized with the small seconds, symbolizing the Earth's regular rotation. It is further inscribed with the evocative phrase, "Eyes on the Stars."
The case back is engraved with the date OMEGA received the "Silver Snoopy Award" in 1970, and the inscription "Apollo XIII," referencing the mission that became a perilous journey that year. All engravings are secured by the NAIAD LOCK system, ensuring they remain in their designated positions.
Furthermore, OMEGA's meticulous attention to detail is evident throughout. The blue nylon fabric strap complements the watch's other blue elements, and its lining features a depiction of the Apollo 13 mission's trajectory. The 42mm stainless steel case draws inspiration from the design of the fourth-generation Speedmaster (the watch first worn on the moon in 1969), featuring a "dot over 90" tachymeter scale on a blue ceramic bezel ring, rendered in white enamel, symbolizing the history of the Speedmaster.
The "OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861" powering this timepiece is a testament to the pinnacle of watchmaking. This groundbreaking movement sets a new standard with enhanced anti-magnetic properties, surpassing previous Moonwatch calibres, and has earned the Master Chronometer designation certified by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS). This timepiece comes with OMEGA's five-year warranty and is presented in a special Apollo 13-themed box, complete with a microfiber cloth, catalog, and a loupe for appreciating the watch's intricate details.
