How this Orient Star became so refined and beautiful! A beloved brand's 70th anniversary limited edition model | ORIENT STAR
ORIENT STAR
A single diamond sparkles at 12 o'clock. Newly equipped with a silicon escapement born from semiconductor expertise.
ORIENT STAR has unveiled the "Skeleton ~C/2021A1~," a limited edition model themed around space to commemorate its 70th anniversary. It was released on October 14, 2021, in a limited run of 200 units.
An Orient Star Masterpiece Depicting a Microcosm with a New Skeleton Movement
Born in 1951 with the aspiration to create mechanical watches that shine like "shining stars" in every aspect of design and components, "Orient Star" began its journey.
Among these, the "Skeleton" model, introduced in 1991, which reveals the entire internal mechanism by removing material from the movement's plates and parts to leave only the framework, has been cherished as a unique expression of mechanical watchmaking.
This year, 2021, marks the 70th anniversary of "Orient Star" and the 30th anniversary of the "Skeleton" model. It is also the year that saw the birth of the in-house Caliber 46系F8 movement. This skeletonized movement, stripped down to its bare essentials, achieves an accuracy of +15 to -5 seconds per day. Furthermore, it incorporates a silicon escapement wheel crafted with cutting-edge MEMS technology, extending the power reserve to over 70 hours and significantly enhancing its practical performance.
In this limited edition model, the skeleton movement is envisioned as a microcosm, symbolically expressed through special part shapes and colors. The silicon escapement wheel, with its spiral shape and vibrant blue hue, utilizes Epson's proprietary, patented technology, its form evoking the Milky Way galaxy.
Additionally, various components such as the minute track on the outer edge of the dial, the power reserve indicator, the small seconds subdial, and the hands are all unified in a deep blue that evokes the cosmos.
Complementing the calculated use of blue, the individuality of this model is further defined by the balance cock at 9 o'clock. Its form, reminiscent of a comet streaking across the heavens, is also linked to the model's designation "C/2021A1." This refers to Comet Leonard C/2021A1, newly discovered in January 2021, which was visible to the naked eye when it made its closest approach to Earth in December.
The "Skeleton ~C/2021A1~" is aptly named, a new star appearing in the Orient Star constellation, fitting for a limited model that offers a once-in-a-lifetime encounter. The two diamonds placed at 12 o'clock also shine beautifully as "shining stars" in the night sky, accentuating the special cosmic design.
