An ideal model for those new to professional diver's watches
Founded in 1951, Orient Star has consistently produced high-quality "MADE IN JAPAN" timepieces, blending traditional craftsmanship with the latest watchmaking technology, guided by the ideal of mechanical watches as "shining stars." Following the "Diver 1964 1st Edition" released in 2021 to commemorate Orient Star's 70th anniversary, the new "Diver 1964 2nd Edition" arrives, reflecting this rich history. This model combines design elements from the "Calendar Auto Orient" manufactured in 1964 with a modern, high-performance in-house movement, meeting the ISO 6425 standard for professional diver's watches.
The "Diver 1964 2nd Edition" faithfully reproduces the heritage design of the original model, featuring a simple dot index on the mirror black dial, highly legible hands, a rotating bezel with an aluminum ring, and sharp lug shapes. In line with the "Diver 1964 1st Edition," it has been enhanced to meet the specifications of a professional diver's watch with 200-meter water resistance for air diving, including a screw-down crown, screw case back, and dual-curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. It is equipped with the in-house caliber F6N47, a self-winding movement from the 46 series F6, offering stable high accuracy and a power reserve of over 50 hours. In addition to displaying the time and date, it features a power reserve indicator, a rare complication for diver's watches.
The collection offers two models, black and green, each with its own unique charm. The black model, a nod to the original "Calendar Auto Orient," features a mirror black finish on the dial and bezel, lending a sophisticated, dressy impression to the sporty diver's watch. This makes it suitable for today's lifestyle, where diver's watches are commonly worn regardless of occasion or fashion. The second model showcases a matte green dial and bezel. The green gradation is inspired by Ryusendo Cave in Iwate Prefecture, a globally unique and mystically beautiful limestone cave, reflecting the spirit of divers who explore its depths.
With a case diameter of 41mm, the watch is a relatively compact size suitable for everyday wear, crafted from high-quality stainless steel (SUS316L). The five-link bracelet, also made of the same material, offers both a three-dimensional appearance and a comfortable fit on the wrist. It features a diver's extension and a push-button three-fold buckle with a secure lock, making it practical for both sports and casual wear. Additionally, the included silicone strap replicates the pyramid-stud bracelet of the "Calendar Auto Orient," allowing for interchangeable styling.
Combining professional diver's watch specifications with a rich heritage design, the "Diver 1964 2nd Edition" is offered as a regular model in both variations. It is an ideal choice not only for fans of Orient and Orient Star, and watch enthusiasts interested in heritage designs, but also as an entry-level professional diver's watch.
