An Elegant Design with Symmetrical Outsize Date and Small Seconds
The Saxonia Outsize Date masterfully blends a clear aesthetic with intricate mechanisms born from thoughtful engineering. This stylish yet classic model is now enhanced with a new silver-colored dial. Its design is characterized by the elegant symmetry of the Lange outsize date and small seconds, offered in two variations: one with an 18K white gold case and another with an 18K pink gold case.
Thirty years ago, Günter Blümlein, who revived A. Lange & Söhne with Walter Lange, stated, "A. Lange & Söhne watches are a synthesis of passion for mechanical ingenuity and craftsmanship, unmistakable brand identity, and rich history." The Saxonia Outsize Date, introduced in 2018, perfectly embodies this philosophy. Previously available with a black dial in two variations, it now welcomes two new models featuring a silver-colored dial, one with an 18K white gold case and the other with an 18K pink gold case.
In these new models, the iconic Lange style is evident, featuring the outsize date and meticulously chamfered and polished solid gold bar indices. The prominent date display at 12 o'clock and the small seconds at 6 o'clock create a striking sense of balance.
The movement is powered by the L086.8 self-winding manufacture calibre, finished using the two-stage assembly process. This calibre, developed from the L086.1 calibre of the Saxonia Automatic, showcases meticulous attention to detail in its finishing, reflecting the passion for technology, craftsmanship, and materials. The number of movement components increased from 209 in the base movement to 286 with the integration of the complex date mechanism. This remarkable date mechanism features independent displays for the tens and units digits, with a display area more than twice that of watches of similar size, ensuring exceptional legibility.
This L086.8 automatic calibre features a large barrel, and the mainspring is efficiently wound by a large, ball-bearing-mounted center rotor with a platinum counterweight, providing a power reserve of 72 hours when fully wound. Lange's distinctive style is also apparent in various details of the movement, notably the German-silver three-quarter plate with Glashütte ribbing on an untreated surface, and the hand-engraved balance cock with a swan-neck spring that elegantly curves to regulate speed.
The Saxonia Outsize Date, a fusion of design, mechanism, and artisanal beauty, truly embodies the founder's vision.
