Reinterpreting Historical Models from 1965 and 1970

Since its debut in 1965 as Japan's first diver's watch, Seiko's dive watches have consistently introduced epoch-making timepieces equipped with unique technologies. With over 50 years of relentless evolution, they have earned high praise and trust from professional divers and adventurers worldwide.
Furthermore, Seiko has consistently led the world as a pioneer in dive watches, with its performance standards, which have guided its technological development, significantly contributing to the establishment of diver's watch standards by JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards) and ISO (International Organization for Standardization).
Now, to mark the 55th anniversary in 2020, two special anniversary models are being released as a limited-edition collection, befitting the year's finale. Both models are based on historical timepieces launched in 1965 and 1970, milestones in Seiko's dive watch history, and have been updated with specifications and designs worthy of the 55th anniversary.
The "1965 Mechanical Divers Re-creation Model", based on a model used in the harsh Antarctic environment in the 1960s and proven for its reliability, features a unique pyramid-patterned reinforced silicone strap. This is one of the captivating details that evokes the indomitable spirit of great adventurers.
The case is crafted from "Ever-Brilliant Steel", offering world-class corrosion resistance and a beautiful white luster, while the movement is the mechanical caliber "8L35", manufactured at the Shizukuishi Watch Studio, endowing it with the aesthetic appeal and durability befitting a modern luxury timepiece.
The case, finished with precise hairline treatment, and the deep marine blue dial evoke the rugged Antarctic seas. The screw-down case back features a dolphin marking, recreating the original model. It comes in a special box with an optional marine blue reinforced silicone strap, limited to 1,700 pieces worldwide.
1965 Mechanical Divers Re-creation Model "Tora-san BEAMS JAPAN Exclusive Model"
The "1965 Mechanical Divers Re-creation Model 'Tora-san BEAMS JAPAN Exclusive Model'" is also available as a BEAMS exclusive. This limited model was born from a collaboration with BEAMS JAPAN, half a century after the film's release, inspired by the fact that Tora-san, the protagonist of the film "Tora-san", wore the "1965 Mechanical Divers" in the first and subsequent early films.
The dial is arranged in a black color reminiscent of the excitement when the cinema lights dim, and the case back features a playful dolphin mark with Tora-san's signature hat and suitcase, showcasing a finish unique to this collaboration model.
Furthermore, an optional reinforced silicone strap in the beige color of Tora-san's attire is included. This model is limited to 300 pieces worldwide and will be available exclusively at BEAMS.
1970 Mechanical Divers Modern Design
The "1970 Mechanical Divers Modern Design" is a limited model featuring a marine blue dial reminiscent of the Antarctic sea, based on the re-creation of the 150-meter diver's watch released in 1970, one of the three most important early heritage pieces in the history of Seiko dive watches.
The original model, which combined a futuristic streamlined form with robust specifications, was long loved by fans worldwide. Notably, it was carried by adventurer Naomi Uemura on his 12,000-kilometer dog sled journey across the Arctic from 1974 to 1976, proving its high reliability in extreme environments.
This model inherits the sleek form of the original, while being adapted to a 42.7mm case diameter that balances presence and wearability, creating a timepiece that allows one to feel the spirit of great adventurers within a modern lifestyle. It is also equipped with the automatic movement 6R35, offering a long power reserve of approximately 70 hours, ensuring high practicality.
The water resistance has been upgraded from the original 150-meter rating to the 200-meter air diving specification required for modern dive watches. This model comes in a special box with an optional marine blue reinforced silicone strap, and is available as a limited edition of 5,500 pieces worldwide.
