A Unique Watch with a "Bell" Shape Offering Two Ways to Be Worn
Following the "Crash," "Tank Chinoise," "Tonneau," and "Asymmetrical Tank," the fifth model in the "Cartier Privé" collection is the "Cloche de Cartier." "Cartier Privé" is a watch collection that focuses on the Maison's legendary timepieces, captivating collectors and produced as limited editions with individual numbering.
The "Cloche" (bell) form first appeared at Cartier in 1920. Because its shape when laid horizontally resembled a desk bell, it was named "Cloche de Cartier," as were many of Cartier's signature pieces based on their forms.
Its characteristics are pared-down lines and clear inspiration. This timepiece was born from Cartier's exploration of form and the aesthetic sensibility of the Maison's designers, who, like those behind the Tortue, Tank, and Patek Philippe, found beauty in everything. This particular creation is exceptionally original among the collection to date, incorporating all of the Maison's watchmaking design codes, making it a truly rare piece.
In a world where round shapes traditionally dominate, Cartier has actively embraced forms such as square, rectangular, and elongated oval. Since the "Santos de Cartier" in 1904 and the "Tank" in 1917, the Maison has cultivated geometric watchmaking and refined designs. The latest "Cloche de Cartier" features two design orientations relative to the case's central axis, with the rounded portion positioned either upwards or to the right. When worn on the wrist, it becomes an extension of the arm, allowing for a unique way to read the time. Placed on a desk, it transforms into a "clock." This remarkable creation stands out for its adaptability.
The railway track and index numerals harmonize with the dial's asymmetrical form, while the crown is adorned with a sapphire, ruby, or diamond cabochon. This watch, unparalleled within the "Cartier Privé" collection, is a masterpiece that will capture the eye of any watch connoisseur.
