CITIZEN is relaunching "Series 8" as a mechanical watch brand that combines functionality with a modern, sporty design. The new collection features the "870 Mechanical," "830 Mechanical," and "831 Mechanical" models, powered by the "Caliber 0950" and "Caliber 9051" mechanical automatic movements. These movements offer enhanced magnetic resistance, meeting the "second class magnetic resistance" standard required for modern digital environments. All eight models are scheduled to be available from August 2021.

The "Series 8" collection blends a modern, dynamic design that fits any occasion with practical features, including enhanced magnetic resistance suitable for today's digital world and improved wearability. While inheriting the "minimalist aesthetic" design theme of its predecessor, "CITIZEN Series 8," launched in 2008, the brand relaunches with a collection that combines design and functionality befitting the new era of 2021.

The reborn "Series 8" by CITIZEN: Modern, sporty design meets enhanced magnetic resistance

Cal.0950

Key features include a modern case composed of straight lines and simple planes, combined with a bold, linear, matte hairline finish for a modern, sporty aesthetic. The watches are powered by the newly developed mechanical movements "Cal.0950" and "Cal.9051" for 2021. Both offer "second class magnetic resistance" to protect against the magnetic fields emitted by modern devices like smartphones and tablets. According to Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS B 7024), "second class magnetic watches" clear the JIS guaranteed level of 16,000 A/m, maintaining their performance even when exposed to magnetic fields as close as one centimeter. The movements are also slim at 4.1mm, enabling a slender case profile and enhancing wearability.

The "870 Mechanical" is the flagship model of the series, featuring a two-part bezel. Its case, characterized by straight lines and bold planes with hairline and mirror finishes, is paired with a dial featuring simple yet assertive indices and broad hands for enhanced legibility, creating a powerful design. Despite its enhanced magnetic resistance and slim profile, it offers exceptional wearability. Three variations are available: stainless steel case and bracelet with black or white dials, and a stainless steel case with a blue dial and urethane strap.

830 Mechanical

The "830 Mechanical" features a striking three-layer dial, combining mother-of-pearl with a lattice-patterned metal dial. A metal dial forms the base, topped with mother-of-pearl, and then a lattice metal plate with indices, creating a delicate and three-dimensional finish. The case is octagonal, emphasizing sharp edges and polished surfaces. Two models are available: a stylish silver and a modern gray.

The "831 Mechanical," like the "830 Mechanical," is a standard model featuring an octagonal case design that highlights its surface beauty, paired with a simple dial. Sharp, edge-extended hands and closely spaced indices create a sense of speed. The bracelet, with its coarse hairline finish evoking a sense of power, features a linear design that integrates seamlessly with the case. Three models are offered: stainless steel cases with black or white dials, and a rose gold-colored stainless steel case with a navy dial, paired with a strap combining urethane and calf leather of the same color.
