Fitbit has announced the "Fitbit Charge 4," which supports Suica, the integrated circuit card for JR East. Contactless payment wearable that protects your personal information
The GPS-enabled health and fitness tracker, "Fitbit Charge 4," now includes a Suica-compatible model. Users can register Suica along with up to six credit or debit cards in the "Fitbit Wallet" within the Fitbit app on their Android or iOS mobile device, enabling the use of Suica's functions and services.
Suica functions and services available in the Fitbit app when connected to a Suica-compatible Fitbit device include: new card issuance, charging with a credit card, charging via Google Pay, convenience stores, or ticket machines, train travel, shopping, balance display, history display, refunds (¥220 fee), earning JRE POINT, Touch de Go! Shinkansen, Shinkansen e-Ticket Service, Express Reservation, and Smart EX. In addition to the "Fitbit Charge 4," other devices are scheduled to support Suica within 2021.
The NFC Pay-based contactless payment service, "Fitbit Pay," ensures secure transactions via Visa Token Service, allowing use without sharing user personal information with merchants or Fitbit. Beyond the Tokyo metropolitan area, it can be used for purchases at approximately 5,000 stations and 50,000 buses nationwide in Japan, as well as at about 1.12 million stores. Internationally, it supports partnerships with around 500 card issuers in 44 countries (as of January 2021). For enhanced security, Fitbit device settings can be configured to require a PIN entry when worn.
Steve Morley, Vice President and General Manager, Health Solutions, Fitbit International and Asia Pacific, commented on the product: "With the Suica-compatible Fitbit Charge 4, Japanese users can enjoy the convenience of tap-and-go in their daily lives without losing sight of their health and fitness goals. Especially now, with the need to prevent the spread of COVID-19, contactless actions in public spaces are key. This reflects our commitment to guiding Japan towards a cashless society."
