An Artistic Watch Adorned with Diamond Motifs

The new "Cabaret Tourbillon "Handwerkskunst"" from A. Lange & Söhne is a luxurious timepiece where the highest standards of watchmaking meet complex traditional crafts. Its rectangular movement is complemented by a dial finished with rare techniques such as translucent enamel and intricate hand-engraved diamond patterns. This exclusive edition, limited to just 30 pieces, represents a special iteration of the world's first wristwatch with a tourbillon stop-seconds mechanism, introduced by A. Lange & Söhne in 2008.
In 2008, A. Lange & Söhne unveiled the "Cabaret Tourbillon," successfully developing and integrating a mechanism that could halt the balance wheel within its rotating carriage, restarting instantly when the crown was pushed back. In 2021, the "Cabaret Tourbillon "Handwerkskunst"" emerged as the seventh piece in the Handwerkskunst series, representing a further pursuit of artistic refinement.
The three-part dial, crafted from 18k white gold, is produced in-house at A. Lange & Söhne's workshops. The diamond pattern visible in the central section, featuring Lange's signature outsize date, is meticulously hand-engraved by artisans with exceptional skill. Inspired by the six diamond-shaped hour markers pointing towards the dial's center, the engraving stands out against the backdrop of Roman numerals III, IX, and XII, creating a visual effect akin to a framed work of art.
The fine lines separating the two sections of the dial, along with the base of the hands and the perimeter of the date display, are finished with tremblage, a form of engraving. A translucent enamel layer over these engraved decorations imbues the metallic grey with a rich depth, resulting in a dial that is both three-dimensional and uniquely expressive.
The subsidiary seconds dial, constructed separately and integrated into the main dial, and the power reserve indicator AUF/AB (UP/DOWN) – a hallmark of A. Lange & Söhne's tradition – are made of rhodium-finished gold. The gold hands are also finished in a rhodium color to match.
A window in the dial reveals the one-minute tourbillon, mounted between two diamond endstones. Furthermore, the tourbillon bridge, finished with a matte texture, features black polishing on its upper surface – considered one of the most challenging finishing techniques.
The platinum rectangular case, measuring 29.5 x 39.2 mm, serves as a fitting frame for this new limited edition, which houses the groundbreaking tourbillon stop-seconds mechanism. The black leather strap, paired with a platinum folding clasp, features contrasting grey stitching, lending a cohesive aesthetic to the watch.
