Buzz Aldrin and Jim Ragan (Apollo Program Equipment Manager) Hold Press Conference
The "Omega Speedmaster," the only watch to have marked time on the moon, accompanied humanity's first lunar landing with Apollo 11 on July 20, 1969.
To celebrate the "Omega Speedmaster 40th Anniversary Moon Landing Exhibition," a press conference was held with Buzz Aldrin, who was an Apollo 11 lunar module astronaut at the time, and Jim Ragan, who was in charge of Apollo program equipment.
Buzz Aldrin was the lunar module pilot who descended to the moon after Neil Armstrong, the first human to set foot on the lunar surface, and conducted an extravehicular activity for two hours and fifteen minutes.
A "Lunar Rover" is also on display on the first floor of the Nicholas G. Hayek Center
The "Omega Speedmaster 40th Anniversary Moon Landing Exhibition" traces the history of manned space development, focusing on NASA's Apollo program, while also exploring the history of the Speedmaster through an exhibition of past models.
Representing Omega, chronographthe Speedmaster was the only timepiece to pass NASA's rigorous 11 tests simulating space conditions in 1965 and was adopted as official astronaut equipment.
Since then, the Speedmaster has been used in all NASA manned spaceflights and continues to be the only wristwatch permitted for use in extravehicular activities in space today.
