The "Langematik Perpetual," the first mechanical wristwatch to combine the Lange outsize date and a perpetual calendar. This watch distinguishes itself from other calendar models with its small yet sophisticated mechanical features, such as the zero-reset function and the main adjustment pusher that advances all calendar elements simultaneously. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of this model's creation, a commemorative edition featuring a blue dial housed in either an 18K white gold or 18K pink gold case will be available in a limited edition of 50 pieces each.

Innovative mechanism housed in a slim, compact design

The "Langematik Perpetual" was unveiled in March 2001 as the first and only self-winding watch to feature a perpetual calendar, Lange's proprietary outsize date display, a zero-reset function, and a main adjustment pusher that advances all calendar elements simultaneously. To this day, it remains the only watch to incorporate all these functions at once.
The development of this exceptional timepiece and its enduring popularity are the result of the contributions of a passionate team, led by Günter Blümlein, the co-founder and first CEO of the reborn A. Lange & Söhne. Blümlein dedicated himself to merging horological beauty with flawless hand finishing, a pursuit beautifully realized in the "Langematik Perpetual."
Now, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of this watch's debut, the "Langematik Perpetual" will be offered in 18K white gold and 18K pink gold versions, each in a limited edition of 50 pieces.
The new variations, in both specifications, feature a blue dial made of solid silver. Roman numerals stand out sharply in three dimensions against the guilloché dial. The indices are crafted from rhodium-plated gold for the white gold version and pink gold for the pink gold version, using the same material as the hands, applied indices, and moon disc. Luminous hands are used for the hours, minutes, day, and month displays, and the hour indices are also luminous. A dark blue leather strap is fitted with a white gold or pink gold pin buckle, bringing harmony to the entire timepiece.
In a past interview, Günter Blümlein stated, "The indicators we focus on are technical innovation and design differentiation." He further emphasized, "Our watches must be classic and understated in appearance, unpretentious, functional, and quintessentially German." In pursuing these ideals, A. Lange & Söhne fostered a culture of reflecting subtle differences in numerous details, a concept that permeates every aspect of the "Langematik Perpetual."
The dial is designed based on the principle of information hierarchy, with each calendar display element intuitively positioned for optimal readability. The outsize date is prominently placed as the most important calendar element, while the left subdial displays the day of the week and the right subdial shows the month. This perpetual calendar accurately indicates the different number of days for each month over a four-year cycle, including leap years. Once correctly set, the watch can theoretically be used until the year 2100 without manual date adjustments.
The moon phase display, integrated into the small seconds at the 6 o'clock position, is also designed with meticulous calculations, taking approximately 122 years for the actual lunar cycle to deviate by one day. All calendar displays can be advanced simultaneously using the recessed main adjustment pusher at the 10 o'clock position, or individually using separate adjustment pushers.
The self-winding Calibre L922.1 SAX-0-MAT features Lange's proprietary zero-reset mechanism. When the crown is pulled, the balance wheel stops, and the seconds hand instantly returns to zero, facilitating quick time setting. The bidirectional winding rotor stores up to 46 hours of power reserve with minimal wear. This rotor is made of 21K gold with platinum segments and is mounted on a three-quarter plate.
Furthermore, it is noteworthy that the case is compact at 38.5 mm in diameter and slim at only 10.2 mm in height. This was achieved by limiting the movement's thickness to 5.7 mm, despite incorporating various calendar mechanisms and adjustment functions. The "Langematik Perpetual," finished by artisans down to the smallest detail, is a testament to the pursuit of uncompromising quality, reaching the level of a true work of art.
